I needed to affix a 1.5-2.0" pole to an existing 3.5" pole, and after searching high and low, found this great mast mounting kit. I especially like the ability to easily adjust the mount so that the smaller mast is absolutely vertical, regardless of the larger pipe setting (which was a bit off absolute vertical), along with the spacing between the two pipes. I had previously bought several different mounting kits, only to eventually find this one to be just what the doctor ordered.

First, make sure you catch the fact that you are going to need two of these kits for one job.

It is indeed a little pricey for a pair of them, but it is solid hardware and does its job well. Handles a wide range of mast sizes. The nuts have captured lock washers, so that much less hardware to fumble with on the roof.

Takes a bit of tinkering to get the numerous nuts and clamp jaws all aligned just so, but this is ultimately an asset since it allows much flexibility in positioning a new mast relative to your existing mast. This helps when the existing mast isn't quite vertical, and tweaking is called for to get a new mast nicely plumb. Any vertical error in the existing mast installation is just going to be amplified when you hang another mast off of it!

You can also adjust how far the masts are from each other. Close together if you want to keep the new mast close to the center of gravity of the old mast, or spaced apart if you need the new mast to clear existing mounting hardware like tripod legs or guys.

Tip: In many situations you can probably get away with putting 3 jaws and their nuts on each set before scaling your roof. The pair for the new mast, and the "inside" jaw for the existing mast. Add the final jaw and nuts to clamp to the existing mast (but don't fully tighten yet), then drop the new mast into their jaws. Since most masts have a reduced portion at one end (to stack multiple masts) point the reduced end down. It can sit in the bottom set of jaws somewhat loosely, yet won't slide through. Hand tighten everything while getting the mast vertical and the jaws square, then gradually tighten all nuts, each one a bit at a time. This will help keep the jaws oriented correctly and the clamping pressure even.

I used this on a weather station that I wanted to add to an existing TV antenna mast to eliminate having 2 masts mounted to the house. I needed the mast to stand off from the existing mast for clearance of vane and wind cups on the weather station, which 2 of the mounts worked just fine and is very secure.

Using this bracket and one other I was able to mount a normal TV antenna in place of my satellite dish when I finally decided to "cut the cable".

Since the dish was wired throughout the house I didn't even need to run new antenna cable.

If you already have a pole, this offset system secures the weatherstation well and sets it apart from the pole nicely.

I bought these to put up a antenna but I realize that I needed to have two of them so if you buy them, you should probably get two. This works well for two different diameter polls

Be aware of the fact that you need two of these clamps to stabilize and antenna mounted to an existing pole such as a Satellite dish mount. One clamp is not stable enough to mount a 5 foot pole with a TV antenna atop it. The picture shows one side of the clamp attached to a 2+ inch OD pole and the other mounted to a standard TV mast pole. This leads you to believe that the clamp has two different size jaws; one for a 2+ OD pole and one for a standard size TV mast pole/ This is not the case. Both sets of jaws are the same size. This was not a problem when I used the clamps. The clamps have risen in price since I made my purchase. They are now close to $25.00 per clamp. Keep in mind that you need two clamps to safely install an antenna. I consider this to be a very expensive price for the clamps. When I stopped using a TV antenna in the early 1980's I could only get 4 stations. after 25 years of price gouging by the cable company and the satellite dish company I decided to cut the cable. I purchased a $45.00 antenna and a $15.00 pole and used the cable left behind by the satellite dish TV company. After climbing up on the roof and installing the antenna to the roof mount left behind by the satellite dish TV company, I did an Auto Scan on my flat screen tv to see which channels were available. Much to my surprise I got about 60 broadcast channels. This is about half of the usable satellite dish tv company's usable channels. There is a shopping channel, a movie channel and several retro (Father Knows Best, Leave it to Beaver, Lassie, Etc.) and of course all the network channels. I do live in a densely populated section of central North Carolina. OK, here is the bottom line. The brackets are too expensive. But, considering the money I am saving by cutting the cable ($175.Read more ›

I give it 3 stars only because it is a little expensive for what it is. if you need to clamp one small diameter may mast to another small diameter mast then this is your device. it would be much better if it were a little cheaper.
