It was easy enough to set up and use. The console is wireless and the published range was 300' (I could only get 120' out of the unit but I guess walls make a difference?).
The temperature is accurate but word of warning... make sure the sensor is placed in the shade! It will read wrong if you don't. Once I learned this, I got accurate readings.
We get a kick out of wendy the weather girl. She changes clothes when the temperature changes. We are in Arizona, so she rarely changes out of her bathing suit but the kids think it's cool (and me too!).
November 2012 note: I now know why her hat appears as soon as it registers below 32°F outside. It's very handy to take just a quick glance and know it's below freezing outside.
May 2013 note: this thermometer is still working great, on the original (non-lithium) batteries! We love it. It is accurate and extremely handy to have in this world of climate changing weird weather. In fact right now it's 84.4°F outside and Wendy is in her bathing suit, cap, and goggles.
October 2013 note: still works great, still running on the original batteries after one year. Worked perfectly through all the continuous heat waves last summer. Costs about $10 more now than when we bought it from Amazon a year ago.
I followed the instructions to get both base units to read both sensors. All four read temperature within 0.4 degrees of each other when sitting next to each other. I now have everything placed where I want them. One of the base units is no longer reading the sensor on the opposite side of the house. I suppose I could reset them, but it's not that important to me and I'm lazy.
One feature I had on our old thermo was a back light. And I would rather have larger numbers than the cute but useless kid-in-clothing graphic. But for the price, these are great!
This product actually sounds like is should be reviewed as a children's book on one of my book blogs. It is a wireless remote thermometer. It was less than $15.00 and had more positive reviews on Amazon than any others I found for twice the price.
One note if you do buy it is that they should bold print that you install the battery in the remote thermometer before you install it on your remote display. Luckily I did that but since my hands often work faster than my brain, it was pure serendipity that I did it in the correct order. The manufacturer predicts dire results if you do it out of order. I suspect a rain of locust or a red sea.
The set up was easy. I tested it by putting it in the fridge. The display gives you time, date, inside and outside temperature in fahrenheit or centigrade, your choice. The cutesy part comes in with the graphic that has Wendy changing attire based on the temperature.
It works fine and I will come back in a few months to report on how it held up.
10/17/12 I still love this and have given one as a gift too, as I have really liked it.
I bought one at Wally World partly on the impulse seeing a low price (<$30). It went back because the transmitter was not being picked up. Got this instead... :)
The Wally World unit claimed others didn't do 433 Mhtz. This one does too. And unlike the returned unit, it "pairs" like BlueTooth, so it won't get confused by other 433 Mhz devices (unlike the 1st returned unit). To "pair" put batteries in the outdoor sender first. That's it. The rest is automagic.
Lots of mounting options for the rather small outdoor transmitter. Give some consideration to placement (out of direct sun and rain).
Bonus feature of alarm clock with snooze I have not tried.
Time, day/month/year display. Can do C or F display.
Wendy is 'cute'.
Hi-low ranges indoor & outdoor are recorded and easily re-set. Have 4 AAA batteries ready. 2 for each side.
A worthwhile purchase.
