Important Lessons,
By
This review is from: Ambrosia (Hardcover)
Important lessons can be learned from this book. In today's society, people sometimes take diversity and tolerance for granted. It is important that we instill these virtues within our youth in order to preserve culture and promote peace.
Ambrosia teaches children (and even adults) to embrace our differences and appreciate what lies beneath the color of our skin. Everyone I've shared this book with reads it with a smile upon their face and an understanding of how positive interaction between different cultures can enrich our society.

A wonderful book teaching diversity with a marvelous little story. One of the best books of this type I've ever seen. I strongly recommend this as a standard, must have, children's book.

As a mother of four young children, I read many childrens books. I love it when I come accross a book that I enjoy as well as my children do. The pictures are colorful and interesting, the story is entertaining and important. Acceptance of our differences is a critical lesson that needs to be understood by people of all ages. This book helps children understand diversity in a fun way.

"Simply, a must-have book for every family library!",

This review is from: Ambrosia (Hardcover)
Not only does "Ambrosia" contain fundamental values and lessons, it is a charming read with an entertaining flow accompanied by bright and delightful illustrations. I gave this book as a present to one of my friends whose kid attends a prestigious private school where a number of Hollywood's young starlets' children attend. My friend's son shared the book with his class and teachers. Shortly thereafter sharing the book with his class, the book was debuted in ALL the classes, and ultimately, the entire school awarded and acknowledged "Ambrosia" as the "Book Of The Year". Quite a testament.

" What truly matters comes from within",
This review is from: Ambrosia (Hardcover)
And so it goes, from out of nowhere comes a coconut, and suddenly the fruit and produce isle of your local grocery store is turned upside down! Where the real deal of the day isn't the discounted price of the produce but the lesson that we learn. It's a rollicking 'lil' tumble through the eyes of, " Tangelos Tangoing" ,Figs Jigging and Blue Berries that blush Blue as they somewhat skeptically welcome a new member to their community.
Dan does a terrific job traversing the issues of race and acceptance in a senstive and delightful way that can help all young families integrate the idea, although we may appear and act differently then others we're actually all quite the same. Nichole also presents very vibrant and animated illustrations that will keep the young ones coming back again and again. I believe that this book would be a great addition to any classroom and also fit in rather well in any Wegmans produce section.

Ambrosia Takes Color Head On with Success,
By Diana Rohini LaVigne "Online Editor, Indianl... (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ambrosia (Hardcover)
A fresh look at the age old story of "Don't judge a book by its cover", Ambrosia is an adorable and fun narrative. Slated for readers aged 3-8, it is filled with characters based on various types of fruit who question a new arrival, the coconut.
The coconut must prove he is a fruit and in the process wins over those fruit members who are skeptical and unwelcoming. The cruel prejudices of the other fruits don't sway the coconut and this brown piece of produce jumps at the opportunity to educate others on his origins, his differences and his intentions. Although the language might be too direct for some educators and parents, Ambrosia makes no apologies for taking the topic of color head on. It is a bold move that delivers excellent results. Young readers could greatly benefit from reading this charming story.

Refreshing message, engaging style...,
By
This review is from: Ambrosia (Hardcover)
The essential message of this delightful story is one that can't be repeated often enough, from preschool to adulthood. In a culture that encourages children to value external appearances, possessions and differences, the message of the book, "what truly matters always comes from within," is presented in a refreshing and engaging way. The book is also valuable in introducing teasers about Filipino culture- a positive portrayal of a culture different than that of many young readers. It is unfortunate that the editorial review from the School Library Journal focused on arguably insignificant issues, and missed the point of the book.

I came across this book and could not help but open it after I saw the cover. The illustrations are amazing, and the story's lessons are wonderfully unfolded as each page turns. This will be the first book I purchase for my future children.

A Must Have for Your Child's Library,
By
This review is from: Ambrosia (Hardcover)
Buy this book now! A wonderful book with underlying themes of diversity, prejudice, and discrimination will expose your children to important life topics early on. The soft, muted colors of the illustrations give the book a warm and comforting feeling, yet are still vibrant enough to keep even the most inattentive kid hooked. Can't wait to see what the author and illustrator have in store for us next!
