So, I located the author and agreement was reached for me to republish the book. We decided to reprint as is, since revisions or updates would destroy its unique perspective, written as it was in the midst of major transformations in the nature of ambulance service. The days of "load and go" when quick transport to the hospital was the order of the day, was coming to a close. Emergency transport by ambulance was now going to be just one part of the emerging field of emergency medical services.
The history of emergency care has been long overlooked, and I feel most fortunate in playing a part in bringing this book-the only one ever published in this country exclusively devoted to the history of the ambulance-to you.
