4.0 out of 5 stars It won't break!
This is my third motar and Pestle in the last six months. One of my kids broke the first pestle, and my wife broke the other pestle when they dropped the pestle on our tile floor. My only complaint is that there are no ridges. It easier to clean without ridges, but I have had pills fly out since they can slip on the side. The pestle works better when you crush with...

This stainless steel mortar and pestle looks incredibly nice, but the product quality is a barely adequate. The steel is very thin, making the mortar very lightweight. Lightweight may be a good feature in most kitchen products, but mortars need to be heavy so they do not bounce around during use. The manufacturer needs to use a heavier gauge of steel to make this product more sturdy and stable.

Also, the mortar is too small and shallow. The mortar would be more useful if the bowl were wider and deeper.

Although the product looks great, it is very lightweight. Both the motar and pestle are hollow and it is too shallow for my purposes. Will be returning it. The search will go on for a heavier, solid steel, deeper one.

The pestle works better when you crush with the handle (upside down), because that end is larger.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice mortar but could be heavier., October 24, 2009

This is a nice mortar and pestle. I am used to heavier mortars so its lightweight disappointed me a little bit when I first saw this product but it serves its purpose. I first used it to smash garlic and had no problem doing so. I don't give it 5 stars because it's not heavy enough for my taste but I still recommend it.

My husband and I are huge stainless steel fans, this mortar and pestle look fantastic on your countertop. I would buy it again, especially if the manufacturer made it heavier.

This is the very thing for all kind of spices. I grow herbs and the oils from them get in the wood, granite and marble mortar and pestles, but this one washes clean with no oil residue left in the mortar. I'm so glad I got this stainless steel--it's wonderful.

After looking at several options I purchased this mortar and pestle - it cost a little bit more than others - but it looked good to me.

As soon as I received the mortar and pestle set I knew I had made a good purchase. The piece is a handy size and made from brilliant stainless steel - it looks really good sitting on a counter.

The mortar is really easy to use, sits steady on the counter, and cleans up really easily. I can't imagine this item is going to wear out anytime soon; if you are looking for a mortar and pestle to grind whatever...this is a good one.

I bought this specifically to muddle mint leaves with sugar to make mojitos and it does the trick. My only disappointment is the pestle appears to be hollow and arrived slightly dented, so I'm not sure the durability is going to be there. All in all, I like it - I wanted SS vs a stone one for my kitchen.

Being stainless steel, I bought this for a more decorative use for my kitchen. I have a more heavy duty white one that I actually use.
