A surprising find...,

This review is from: Amco 870 Mixing Bowl, 2 Quart (Kitchen)
Growing up, my parents had a set of nestable, stainless-steel mixing bowls in approximately 2 quart, 4 quart, 8 quart, and 12 quart sizes. We used them for everything--beating eggs, mixing a cake, marinating meats, etc. They were versatile, but thin walled and over the years, took a beating.
I was looking for a set of stainless-steel bowls, similar to those my parents had, for similar purposes. I had considered the All-Clad Stainless Mixing Bowl Set when I came across this item (along with the Amco 3-Quart Stainless Steel Mixing bowl, the Amco 4.5-Quart Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl, and the Amco 6.5-Quart Stainless-Steel Mixing Bowl. Between the 4 individual bowls, I paid less than half what the All-Clad set would have cost me. Unfortunately, I was taking a gamble on quality as I am a fan (and user) of All-Clad cookware and know first hand the fine workmanship they put into their products. My take was that if these items turned out to be like the bowls my parents had, I'd ditch them in a few years for another set and still have gotten some good use out of them. I was pleasantly surprised when I received the Amco products. They are heavy, solid, with a thicker gauge of stainless-steel that would seem to resist dents. There is a heft to these bowls. The matte finish resists scratches. They are dishwasher safe. They have a flattened bottom as to sit on a countertop without rolling around. All in all, I am glad I went with the Amco bowls and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for these basic kitchen tools.

Great value for such a fine product, as all the Amco mixing bowls are the highest quality. This "2-qt." size is about the size of a large cereal bowl. It's sturdy and has a half-inch lip which makes it easy to hold and can be used for anything. I doubled up on the 4- and 6-qt. sizes.
_______________ CAVEAT: However, if you're measuring, this bowl comfortably holds 1.5-quarts of liquid volume, which translates into 1.29-quarts of dry volume. If you need accurate [liquid] volumes for mixing bowls, buy the Tovolo, Roscan, or Cook Pro brands. (The kitchen industry is riddled with these measuring inaccuracies.) Or just move up one size and get the Roscan or Cook Pro Stainless Steel 3-qt. bowl -- they're exactly the same. It's accurate and a sufficient size that handles most any job short of the need for a 6-qt. bowl.

I had bought a couple 2-quart Amco bowls previously and found them useful for putting together to toss salads. I wanted an extra one, so I could toss a vegetable salad and then a pasta salad and then just put the 2 bowls in the fridge, so I bought this one.
It's 2 ounces lighter than the ones that I bought previously. This had a sticker that said it was made in India, while the previous ones were made in Korea. With the "AMCO" sticker off of it there's nothing to even say what brand it is. My old bowls have AMCO engraved into the bottom. This is a much cheaper bowl. The rim has more of a flare to it than the old ones, but it still fits together with the old ones I have, so I'm keeping it.

I like these bowls alot. The stanless steel is perfect for me because it's lightweight. I got this and some other sizes to replace the heavy painted glass bowls I got as a wedding gift many years ago. I was tired of lifting them on and off my shelves. They are easy to clean and the rims are smooth and well finished. For the price and overall quality you can't go wrong.

This is a study utility bowl. Makes a great double boiler of a sauce pan. Amco makes a quality product.
