4.0 out of 5 stars Practical, but need some skill to use
Blades are sharp and make a clean cutting line. I find this item easy to use until you get to the very end. I haven't figured out the technique for getting the cutter cleanly through (and out of) the very last of the avocado membrane.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not useful enough to use
It's a great idea, but this item really didn't help me much in pitting and slicing avocados. I can still do a better job on chilled avocados, manually, with a regular knife. I think the problem with this contraption is that the round pitter too big & the slicing lines are spaced too far apart. I tend to create a bigger mess using this tool, and it doesn't seem to save...

5.0 out of 5 stars great slicer, April 26, 2009

I received this as a gift and like it enough to maybe give as a gift. It makes very nice even thin slices, great for sandwiches. I have a slicer that is similiar that makes thicker slices. I am not sure it is worth the money unless you make a lot of Avacado tomato sandwiches or garnishes. The slices are a little thin for salads in my opinion.

I have tried several slicers and I like this one the most. The pitter works and there's something about the length and rigidity of it, that make it easier to manipulate.... highly recommended.

we eat a lot of avocados in our house. For our workouts, it is a good supplement to some GOOD fat as well as healthy for our hearts when eaten in moderation.

Peeling and slicing avocado, however, has always been a pain in our butts as we always have problems smushing at least some(sometimes all, when too ripe) of the avocados.

A good avocado is delicate and soft, but unless we want guacamole each time, a mashed avocado isn't that appealing on top of crisp Romaine lettuce and tomatoes.

Along comes this slicer that makes slicing the avocado easier.

With a nice ripe avocado, this slicer can go through it with ease. It does leave a little bit behind(but not as much as when we scoop it out with spoons and try to slice it). With some practice, we can almost scoop the HAAS clean right against the skin leaving very little waste.

Avocados are not cheap products so every little bit helps save money.

~~~~~~~~~~
how to use it:
one would still have to use a knife to slice the avocado in half. Then use the corer from the slicer to take out the pit.
placing the slicer along the wide end and scraping in one smooth motion without stopping seems to create the best results.
not all of the slices come off the first half. So we just keep at it untill all the halves have been sliced as each of the new halves that get sliced help get the residues from the last halves out.
with the very last half, we push it out gently using our palms.
It is also a great egg salad slicer. Pushing a boiled egg through it on the wide end, then turn the egg around and run it through again to create small cubes. Simple and fast!
~~~~~~~~~~

I can see why some people would deem this just another gadget in the kitchen, and it can become one if you only eat avocados ever so often. And if when you do, you make guacamole, this slicer is not for you.

But if you are looking to eat healthier and like avocados on your salads, as slices on top of some triscuits(delicious! and make great horse do overs[hors d'oeuvres] for parties!), just by themselves, this slicer is a great aid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great kitchen tool!~, October 25, 2010

I LOVE this tool as much as I love avocados. The pitter works perfectly. Then the slicer makes easy work of slicing and removing from the shell. Beautiful perfect slices for anything. Simple guacamole from already sliced avocado. Will give as Christmas gifts this year. How did I ever do without this?

I think the problem with this contraption is that the round pitter too big & the slicing lines are spaced too far apart. This avocado slicer and pitter is great. It works well on ripe avocados. If you try it on ones not ripe enough,the pit won't come out and neither will it make the slices. I like to use it even if I am going to mash the avocado, since it is out of the peeling and comes out and sliced up to some degree already. They have the exact ones at Williams Sonoma but I bought this cheaper on Amazon even with the shipping. (I bought 4 for Christmas gifts).

I was given one of these as a gift by my son. Last Christmas I tried to find two of them as gifts, but they were not available where my son bought mine...so I bought an impostor which was useless! Then my son found the correct once on Amazon and I bought two as gifts. We eat avocados on everything...sandwiches, eggs, hot dogs...and we make guacamole regularly. Wouldn't be without this slicer. It even works on small avocados in the off season! LOVE IT and the people I bought them for also love them!

This product isn't bad - it's ok if you want evenly sliced avocado for garnishing but for guacamole, I can do a better and quicker job pitting with a spoon and slicing with a knife. It's a bit awkward to use. Overall, ok but for me it was a waste of money.

I bought this to scoop out the soft flesh of Thai coconuts. It's a breeze to use. I use the green plastic end to do so. Love this tool!
