5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for
I had been searching all over to find a small steamer basket that would fit in my smallest 1.5 quart pan. I took a chance on this one, and it fits. The closed diameter on this is 5.375 inches.

3.0 out of 5 stars It would be a 5 star product if its legs didn't scratch pots.
This is a good product. It works well and will last many years (mine is at least twelve years old). However, the leg bottoms are flat and a bit sharp, which damages non-stick pots and discolors stainless steel ones.

I have a non-stick pot that is the right size for steaming and this steamer fits perfectly, but because of the issue with the legs, I had to buy...

This steamer works GREAT in small & large saucepots or in fry pans/skillets. Only a small amount of the liquid of your choice is needed to steam all your favorite vegetables, shrimp, clams, etc.
The ring on the post in the middle of the basket is especially helpful for lifting the steamer out of the cooking pot. However, the ring & post are removable for items needing more room, like corn on the cob or whole heads of cauliflower. The steamer folds compactly for easy storage. I use mine frequently and it still looks new after 20 years.

5.0 out of 5 stars super handy steamer, February 14, 2010

I measured the closed bottom max width as 5 3/8 inches. It stands on three 7/8 inch long legs. These dimensions mean it will fit about any pot with a top rim diameter opening of 5 and 1/2 inches.

The center post and ring have not yet been too hot for me to lift the steamer from a pot. I then fold out the sides so I can slide off the steamed vegetables into whatever dish I'm preparing. This item replaced a Black and Decker steamer. The capacity of which I no longer needed, particularly it's rice cooking ability, having bought a separate unit for that.
This collapsible steamer has made kitchen life easier for this live-alone grandpa.

This is the first vegetable steamer I've ever bought, and I love it. It works perfectly in small or large pans and is super easy to use. Just stick it in the pan, add a little water to the bottom, add your vegetables and steam away!

I used this for the first time today and found that it was actually extremely easy and convenient to use. I also like that fact that it fits in a wide variety of different sized pots.

Great sized product. It opens up to fit my largest pot, as well as folding up to fit my smallest pot. Folds small for storage. Well made product. Someone was thinking. Highly reccommended !!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars good with 1 drawback, November 22, 2011
This review is from: Amco Collapsible Steamer, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I love this steamer for steaming vegetables and chicken. It is great because it forms to the size of the pan and collapses for storage. The only drawback is cleaning after steaming chicken. I've found if I spray it with cooking spray it helps a lot. I even reserve the water from steaming as a chicken broth (I usually season chicken before steaming).

This is a good product. It works well and will last many years (mine is at least twelve years old). However, the leg bottoms are flat and a bit sharp, which damages non-stick pots and discolors stainless steel ones.

I have a non-stick pot that is the right size for steaming and this steamer fits perfectly, but because of the issue with the legs, I had to buy another one, with smooth, rounded legs, to use in that pot.

The discoloration it causes to stainless steel pots is not permanent, but you have to scrub with powder cleaner to get it out, which adds to the frustration so I've been using the steamer with the rounded legs a lot more.

I looked all over in the stores for a steamer that is bigger. The ones I came across just barely fit inside the pan I wanted to use. This steamer is the perfect size for all of my pans! I love that it is stainless steal. It makes it easy to clean.
