I have used these poachers time and time again with perfect results. This is a great product and makes eggs fun to eat!

These little poachers make the cutest eggs. I spray generously with no-stick spray, place them in a small amount of boiling water in a skillet, lower the handles, turn the heat down to a simmer and then cover the pot. My eggs are perfectly done in about 6 minutes. I uncover the pot, raise the handles and remove the poachers. Some of the steam condenses on top of the eggs, which I drain away before placing them on my toast. Perfect eggs every time--what a great way to start the day!

I bought these and had high hopes, but upon the first use it was evident they were not going to work. They lean to the side of the handle. They do not sit up straight. The handle is too high for most lids, even with spray they stick and they just are not what they are marketed to be. My advice is "Don't buy"

I bought these as well as the "Pod" silicone poachers and tested both. The Pod poachers win hands-down. In the Daisy, eggs did not set up even after 10 minutes of poaching. During two separate uses, we ultimately ended up gently tipping the egg into the simmering water to finish the poaching process.
Also, despite using a generous amount of cooking spray, bits of egg stuck in all the little corners, requiring fingernail "scraping" even during the cleaning process. I thought the little handles would be helpful in settling and removing the poachers from the water. However, unless you have a well-domed lid for your pan, you have to get pretty close to the simmering water to tilt the handle down in order to cover the eggs during the cooking process (and to tilt the handle back up for lifting the eggs). We're getting rid of these, and buying another set of the Pod poachers.

After a few uses, I stuck the poachers in the back of my pantry. They are hard to clean even after spraying them with non stick spray before using and tend to tip over when taking them out of the water. The handle is not balanced , hard to grasp when using a pot holder and water seems to seep into the poacher as it tips. Sorry I bought them.

I LOVE these! I'm an experienced cook and I'm buying more of these "daisy"gems after purchasing my first two. Here's why:
1. The cooked eggs are TOO CUTE FOR WORDS! Mundane Eggs now can be FUN & festive - and look like daisies! They were a huge hit at a recent Mother's Day Brunch. Even the men & boys noticed & liked them! Three little boys even selected the poached eggs to eat - the real test! AND, they ate them! (The eggs were sparingly placed on top of a Rachael Ray Mexican Casserole and there was lots more yummy food to eat- so the kids could easily have avoided them.) 2. The Daisy Poachers are EASY & FAST to use-once you know how to cook with them. Thanks to the Amazon reviews here, I learned that these actually steam the eggs- using a lidded pan. 3. Eggs are also super-easy to remove from the poachers - IF you rub just 2 drops of melted butter inside them first. (You could use olive oil instead- but Eggs need to TASTE GOOD so people will eat them! Two drops of butter will not cause a heart attack-and Plain poached eggs with NOTHING on them are too boring.) 4. POACHING the "OLD WAY" is complicated- you need vinegar in the water; AND parts of the eggs float away; AND you have to carefully drain the water from the eggs -using a slotted spoon when removing them- which can cause the yolk to break; AND because the egg is in an oval shape in the water, it's difficult to cook them perfectly (I don't like runny eggs) and clean-up isn't fun. 5. USING The NEW "Daisy" POACHER is simple- no part of the egg touches the water - so No Vinegar is needed and you use less simmering water so it's safer; AND No Part of the Egg is Lost in the water; AND the egg is a uniform thickness in the silicone poacher - so it cooks perfectly; AND it pops out of the poacher easily -using the tip of a spoon at one edge just to get it started, and cleaning the silicone poacher is quick if it's buttered first. 6. Poached eggs cooked just the way you like them have never been easier! For a crowd, you could even assemble all the eggs in buttered "daisies" - and put them all in the water at the same time and easily do a big batch of Eggs Benedict. I like to prepare a sheet pan of toasted & buttered English muffins - with the Canadian Bacon on top & all covered with foil -and keep it warm in a 200º oven - while I make blender hollandaise & poach the eggs. MY TECHNIQUE For 2 eggs: Melt 1/2 a teaspoon of butter in a glass custard cup in the microwave. Drip a couple of drops into each daisy & spread it quickly around with a clean finger before cracking an egg inside. Then, put about 3/4 inch of water in a small 6-inch fry pan and place the poachers inside - rotating the handles down 1st so they are just above the water before covering the pan with a glass lid. Crank up the gas burner & when the water boils, turn it down to simmer. I like a 4 1/2 to 5 minute steamed egg- the yolk is firmed up but still a little gooey (not runny) in the center. My favorite way of eating these cute eggs is to put them on a piece of buttered whole-grain toast & then cut it all up together & eat some toast & some egg with each bite. What a fun way to enjoy breakfast! Eating "Daisy" eggs makes me smile! |
