5.0 out of 5 stars Best jar opener
I have owned many jar openers in my life and this is the one I would recommend for most people. The jar opener that is the easiest and most convenient to use is the one that is shaped like a V with serrated inner edges that you mount on the under side of your upper kitchen cabinets. It is convenient because you don't have to open a drawer for it and since it is mounted to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as my old one!
I ordered this because it was a similar design to the one I used for the last sixty years. The old one, a copper-washed, no-brander from the dime store, finally gave up the ghost. I suspect one of my menfolks used it for some improper prying! The new jar opener does not grip as well, possibly because it is half the width of my old one, and the comfort grip had to be...

I have owned many jar openers in my life and this is the one I would recommend for most people. The jar opener that is the easiest and most convenient to use is the one that is shaped like a V with serrated inner edges that you mount on the under side of your upper kitchen cabinets. It is convenient because you don't have to open a drawer for it and since it is mounted to the cabinet, you can use both hands to grip the jar. BUT, many people don't want to mar their kitchen cabinets by mounting that kind of opener. So, my current favorite is the Swing-A-Way #711 jar opener. Made by the folks who make high-quality hand can openers, this is a very simple to use device which doesn't take up much drawer space. It opens jars of all sizes easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Swing-A-Way Mfg. Jar Opener, February 17, 2006
I cannot believe this product isn't in every store! It has been very hard to find, I have even travelled to other towns to try to find it to give friends who have WEAK HANDS OR ARTHRITIS! It will open any size from a small bottle top to a large pickle jar without effort! I would be lost without mine! Last summer, I found a supply in a small town in Indiana (at $4.95 each). I bought 1/2 dozen, gave them all out and need more, so had to come online! Buying 6 more now.

I have had this opener for 26 years. Yes, 26 years! Got it as a wedding gift back in 1980 and I'm still using it. I love it and use it almost every day. It has never failed me and even kids can use this one. I'm ordering 2 more for my daughters for Christmas for their own apartments. Great kitchen tool, everyone should have one!

Amco Swing-A-Way 711BK Comfort Grip Jar Opener, Black I bought this opener in New York more than 30 years ago ,while on a business trip from my home country of Trinidad and Tobago. My wife who has rather weak hands praises the elegance and effectiveness of its design every time she uses it. It has received constant use since then and although now covered with rust it has never failed us. I've been looking for it since we emigrated to the US 14 years ago and I am happy that I finally tracked it down. I recommend it so highly, that I have bought one for each of my female relatives.

I haven't found a jar yet that I can't get open with this thing. I've had one for years and I just bought two for my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. I started needing one when I had some arthritis pain in my hand and couldn't grip the tops of jars firmly enough to open them. This only requires you to squeeze the handle to get a good grip on any size jar.

The only downside is that sometimes there are dents left in the jar lid after opening it this way.

I have used every jar opener made - from the most expensive to the least. THIS is the one that works every time! It is easy to store, easy to use and works on any jar - large or small. I wouldn't (couldn't!) be without one.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a REAL Jar Opener, October 11, 2007

The more expensive jar openers that I've seen in stores are not as well made as this one and it really opens any tight jar! From small to large jars, all you do is adjust it to fit the lid and with little to no pressure, it's off. I bought 3, one for myself and 2 for both my daughters-in-law.

This jar opener has never failed. I LOVE not having to ask my husband for help! He likes it too. I am ordering several for Christmas "little" gifts.

If you have difficulty opening jars due to arthritis as I do, then this gadget is for you. I have had the Amco Swing-A-Away 711BK Comfort Jar Opener for several weeks now. It attaches to jar lids with ease and requires very little effort to either push or pull to open. And the price is just amazing! I cannot say enough about this product - I just love it!
