Gets The Job Done!, July 21, 2009
This review is from: Amco Swing-A-Way S2045 Clam/Oyster Shucking Set (Kitchen)
The knife works great and I like the rubber handle for gripping. However, the mitt was made for someone with LARGE hands. Maybe a gorilla. I can't use this mitt and even some of the men in my family thought this mitt was made too big. The knife is the same price as most clam knives and it's worth purchasing.

Terrible Clam Shucking Set, December 28, 2010
This review is from: Amco Swing-A-Way S2045 Clam/Oyster Shucking Set (Kitchen)
The S2045 Clam Shucking Set is useless. I used it once, the knife is too thick to open clams. I was replacing an old clam knife that I had for years, paid about five dollars for it. The handle split so I am looking for a good replacement, guess I still have to keep looking.
The mitt was cumbersome to use when I was finished and tried to wash it; the mitt tore in my hands. Also bought the gloves, they were not as good as work gloves that I purchased at Home Depot and only use when shucking clams. I have come to the conclusion that the designer of this set never met a clam face to face.
I am open to suggestions for a good to excellent clam opener.

The Swing-A-Way Scores Home Run Against Oysters, March 23, 2010
This review is from: Amco Swing-A-Way S2045 Clam/Oyster Shucking Set (Kitchen)
If you're up to bat against oysters this set will let you swing-a-way and bring in a home run. While the mitt can seem cumbersome when working on clams - it's a great texture to grip the unruly oyster shell. It's that same texture which is definetly preferable to actually holding the oyster barehanded or wrapped in a towel (that's what the barehanded person usually grabs next.) If you take a quick look at an online tutorial on how to open an oyster, (usually only three minutes long,) using this blade shape should give you just the leverage needed to twist open your opponent's shell. While clams seem to be a shut out for other reviewers -this oyster knife reviewer says try some oysters with your beer as you take in spring training.
If you're looking to buy an oyster knife, or bring a bunch of cheap oyster knives to your next oyster shucking party - this is probably the shucking tool for you. This is a pretty decent "for the money" oyster shucking knife set. You can avoid the expensive purchase of the oyster shucking gloves - which get pretty hot and yucky quickly anyway. It won't be the best oyster knife you can buy, but it's a pretty good shucker knife and will last a while. The red color on the set makes it easy to find on the picnic table in the middle of your pile of oyster shells and matches your oyster cocktail.
