Ideal for average-size rooms up to 400 square feet, this portable air conditioner features a 12,000-BTU cooling and heating capacity. During the cooling process, its self evaporating technology extracts water from the air that passes through the unit. Most of this water then works to help cool the machine for more efficient operation. Approximately 65 to 70 percent of water condensed evaporates out with the exhaust air, reducing the hassle of constantly having to empty the water tank. For the small amount of remaining water, the unit provides a built-in water tank with a drain outlet and a water tube. When the tank fills, the compressor stops operating and the power light will flash to indicate that the tank should be emptied.
The air conditioner also comes equipped with two fan speeds for fast or normal cooling, a digital temperature display, full thermostat control, and electronic controls with a handy remote control. Choose between continuous operation or the programmable timer, which can be preset up to 12 hours. Other highlights include a 62- to 90-degree F thermostat, moisture removal of 65 pints per day, a washable air filter, and an activated carbon filter, as well as adjustable louvers to control air flow, built-in casters, and an extendable exhaust hose (up to 5 feet). A window and wall exhaust kit comes included, and the air conditioner must be vented via the included exhaust hose. Please note, if the room has a heat source such as direct sunlight or computer servers, the coverage area may be reduced. Over the years, we've acquired SIX of these units for our hermetically sealed offices. We have no windows that can be opened and the building temperature will vary from 63 degrees to 85 degrees from one day to the next. We're on the 5th floor and have nowhere to vent units to the outside. Yes, these units have 4" discharge hoses that need to vent away from the space being heated or cooled but we solved the problem by installing venting into the dropped ceilings and the hot air or cold air being discharged by the units goes into the space above the ceiling panels. Not a perfect solution, but it works well to make the office work space tolerable when the building HVAC system goes haywire.
I've found these units to be relatively quiet and very efficient. Because they are multi-purpose (heat, air conditioner, fan and dehumidifier), they are useful year round. We'd just be miserable without them. YES, you do have to drain the units if your space is extremely humid but it's not a huge hassle. We generally only have to do this occasionally when the building humidity level jumps unusually high. I heartily recommend the Amcor 12,000 BTU portable air conditioners for supplemental climate control.

We bought this unit for its A/C function but it has failed miserably. It hardly cools a room of any size. After 2 hours, the most this unit would do is to drop 3 degrees Fahrenheit in a small corner of the room while the rest of the room's temperature remains unchanged. One of the main problems might be due to the heat that its hose radiates. I have used insulators bought from the hardware store but they didn't help. The hose temperature can reach as high as 130 degrees! As a heater, this unit works fine. Noise can be unbearable, however.

Have a ALD12000 (no heater) bought less than 2 years ago. It no longer is cooling (probably compressor). Calls for assistance go unanswered. Getting (No one here to assist you...hangup) or (Leave a message we will get back to you. They don't) or (Try to leave them a message and their mailbox is full!)
