Here in southern Alabama, out in the woods where some of the insects have not yet been named, sweet ants desire to move into the kitchen several times a year (seems to be more weather-related). Some off-the-shelf poisons (as badly as I didn't want to use them) have been tried, as well as various natural methods, with little success. A relative in Texas recently told me about Amdro and what a wonderful job it did on fire ants there. I definitely had my doubts, but I ordered the granules, the small bottle to put on tabs to place around, and the bait stations, anyway. Within three days RELIEF! After a few weeks they did come back, but again within three days, gone because of Amdro. From what I learned about ants, if you build on their path, they'll visit you without invitation. Amdro, thank you for relief! Toxic, yes, and it worries me to be using such poison, but sanity does count, and being able to cook.

We found their entry path, and put some of these in their trail. They didn't take the bait at first, so I can understand the negative reviews. Anyway, we dripped a little honey on one of the traps, and left a honey trail leading into it. That helped, and it kept them coming to that particular spot, but the other trap, the one that we didn't drip honey on, was full the next morning regardless.

Anyway, it was "hormiga-ggedon" in our kitchen one day, and the next day they were all gone, just like that. I'm ordering more. That's why I'm here to write a review.

A couple of VERY useful tips:

1) ordinary dish soap (like Pamonlive) on a sponge with water works great to kill their scent trail and to kill them. Wipe them up where you don't want them. They hate the dish soap. You can "direct the traffic" by killing the trails you don't want, and leaving the ones you do (see 2 below).

2) Once you find their trail, and have them heading where you want them, away from your food, fence them in with a perimeter of dish soap, and put the bait and a little honey in the middle of that enclosed area. You want to control them, not the other way around. You need to outsmart them. It's a game. Maybe you didn't sign up for it, but you have to play it anyway.

NOTE: You probably don't want to put dish soap on your hardwood floors or other surfaces where it might cause problems. Maybe a soap meant for your particular surface would be best.

I usually buy this with the TERRO liquid ant baits. This bait is easier to setup, and has much much less propensity to leak, but I find the ants I have in Southern California have a harder time finding it. If I set it up next to a Terro liquid ant bait, then it actually serves a great purpose because the ants branch out from that location and find it.

I have also used the Terro liquid bottles to put some of the liquid directly on the top of the Amdro bait stations, and that usually helps attract them.

For areas I don't want to risk leaking the Terro liquid, I do use these.

Not the best, but I do keep buying these because they are a good partner to the Terro.

I bought two boxes of these ant bait stations when my preferred brand (Terro) was sold out at Home Depot. The two products have the same active ingredient at the same proportion (5.4% sodium tetraborate decahydrate) so I expected that they would also work the same. I blame the ineffectiveness of this product on the design of the bait station itself. The Amdro stations have a small hole at the top of the plastic bait station. I never saw a single ant scale the side of this plastic trap to fall into the hole or eat from it (the liquid bait doesn't even come up to the level of the hole in the trap). I will be sticking to Terro brand traps going forward because i've seen them work.

A couple of days ago, my wife found ants in our guest bathroom. Odd, especially since there really wasn't any food items in there. I even checked the waste basket for a wrapper. Nothing.
The next day we found more of the ants in the kitchen, all walking along the baseboard.

So Sunday afternoon became a full on, top to bottom, cleaning day. We even pulled out the refrigerator to vacuum and scrub there.

After the white glove inspection, we bought a single box of these, and placed three of them around the house: guest bathroom and two in the kitchen.

I checked on them after a couple of hours and saw only a couple of ants enticed by the bait. Supposedly this juice sings with the voice of the Sirens, so why are most of the ants ignoring it?

Well, the ants weren't upstairs yet, so I figured I would deal with it the next day.

I checked on them in the morning, and all of the ants were gone. Not a single ant to be seen anywhere.

I gave the item 4 stars. Perhaps this stuff worked amazingly well, ridding us of our ant problem in less than 24 hours. Perhaps my cleaning just removed all of the food supply and they left....and this stuff wasn't enticing enough for them to stick around.

I would have given this item 5 stars if I had seen the ants going for it more aggressively. Only two out of hundreds seemed enticed by it. I would have also given this item 5 stars if the written information gave an estimate as to how long it would take to kill the ants, to help manage expectations.

While I doubt this stuff truly killed off the colony in under 12 hours, my ants are gone. So, four stars.
