Book Description

AMELIA'S disappearance stunned the world.
Her LAST SECRET will surprise you.

Amelia Earhart vanished 75 years ago while flying over the Pacific. Was she part of an American spy mission? Was she eloping to escape a suffocating lifestyle and marriage? Or did she die as a stowaway on a remote island? With Hillary Clinton's announcement that a team would be investigating new evidence in the Phoenix Islands, this story is as timely as it is well-researched.

Take flight in this fast-paced adventure, from a NY Times bestselling novelist.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Really Happened to Amelia Earhart? June 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was excited to read this. I love the mystery and the history that surrounds this event. What really happened 75 years ago to Amelia Earhart. Eric Wilson gives his take on this historical event and does a great job. This is Eric's first novella and I cant wait for more. He does a great job recreating what lead upto the event and then what happened to cause it. He starts off with right before the event takes place, then goes a few years into the future, then to the present day and then right back to Amelias last days. He does a great job bringing the characters to life and adding his own twist and thoughts into the mystery. I have always loved how Eric adds some historical events to his books. I know this is a short read(novella) but it is well worth the read. Eric always does a great job researching for his books and this is no exception. I love the fact that he also included a little about the Navajo code talkers from World War II. Is this the true story of what happened? It is a possibility but we may never really know what happened 75 years ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Intriguing Speculative Novella June 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Nearly 75 years ago, Amelia Earhart's plane disappeared igniting a firestorm of controversy and wild speculation about what might have happened. Throughout the years various groups have uncovered numerous clues which may eventually unravel this long-standing mystery. In the meantime we're left to speculate on what might have happened. For example, is it possible Amelia had in her possession something so valuable that her flight was hijacked? Then perhaps just a few years after her disappearance a code talker would find evidence of where her plane crashed and what she had in her possession? And maybe 75 years after that fateful day, a young lady in Tennessee will uncover the secret that led to Amelia's disappearance? In Amelia's Last Secret, NY Times best-selling author, Eric Wilson takes historical events and various recovered clues and weaves together an intriguing tale of conspiracy and mystery that speculates on what might have happened to Amelia Earhart.

I really enjoyed this novella. It only takes a few hours to read, but it feels like only a few minutes. I started it late one evening wanting only to get a feel for the book. Before I knew it I was almost a quarter of the way through. It has a highly engaging storyline and moves at a very quick pace. Best of all though, it contains one of my favorite parts of Wilson's writing, historical speculation. I love this aspect of his books. He does a great deal of research and it shows with stories that are solidly plausible fiction.

Amelia's Last Secret has a nice easy flow to it. Though it goes from 1937 to 1944 to 2012 and back to 1937, it transitions smoothly so that the reader does not feel jerked around. Instead, the pieces of the puzzle are laid out in a very logical manner that builds suspense and makes it hard to put this book down. While the illustrations at the beginning of each section are not necessary, I love them. It shows an attention to detail and willingness to put forth extra effort to give the reader a little extra enjoyment.

As expected, the characters are great. I love Oliver the Code Talker. This is such a fascinating part of WWII history and I enjoyed getting to spend a short amount of time with a Code Talker. Since this is a novella, very little attention was given to the ins and outs of Oliver's duties, but I simply appreciated the inclusion of such an interesting part of history. Rumor has it Oliver will be making a return appearance in a couple of books. Yay! I equally enjoyed Amelia's portrayal. I like her spunk and determination. I didn't have to stretch my imagination to believe she could have acted in real life the way she did in this novella. However, I will say I hope her actual death was less difficult.

I completely enjoyed Amelia's Last Secret. It's a fun story that's quick to read. The suspense is great and I completely bought Wilson's speculation about what might have happened. While I know this is a work of fiction, I didn't have to suspend disbelief and easily found myself lost in the story. For those that have yet to read one of Wilson's books, this is the perfect place to start. It's cheap, short, and a great example of his writing talents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down! June 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this yesterday, and thought I'd start on it last night. I didn't plan on not being able to let it go and get some sleep. This is a great story, full of history with great fiction woven through it. Eric Wilson captures the spirit of Amelia Earhart, and makes her come alive. The book keeps you guessing and wondering what was the secret. We may never know what truly happened to her, but it makes for an exciting story, and worth the time spent reading it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Okay but not great
An example of "you get what you pay for". Not great writing, weak story. Not much plot. I don't recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not good.
This seemed to be a cash-in to the expedition a few years ago, and it's a lousy tie-in. The chapters are from Amelia's POV, the POV of a Marine during WWII, and a modern day... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad.
Not a book for serious Amelia fans interested in history, and fairly short. Not bad as far as conjecturing what could have happened to her and how the end might have come.

Too drawn out with unbelievable facts. I do believe she was killed, but not enough information to confirm this. I would have enjoyed more true facts.
