I own the medium size micro fiber bag, which I think are a bit big for everyday use. As a travel purse, it's perfect, because I need to carry a bit more than normal, things like a camcorder or camera, water, souvenirs, etc. It can get quite heavy, but I stuff it and throw it around so that it hangs across my back with the heaviest part of the bag at my lower back. That takes the weight off my upper body and distributes it down lower. I don't have the best posture, so I can get major backpain with a backpack. This bag doesn't cause me such problems.

MATERIAL

The material is easy to clean and wears well. I don't use it everyday, but I've taken the bag on a few trips to Alaska and Hawaii and Mexico and elsewhere. Considering how much weight I put in it and how I abuse the zipper trying to shut it, it's still in good condition; and if I were to sell it now, I would list it as "like new" condition.

DESIGN

The most useful pockets are the ones on the inside and outside with zippers or a flap. I don't find any of the other pockets useful, because they are hard to reach and impractical to use. That is one of its design flaws. Except for the three pockets with a zipper or flap, the rest are not very useful. Digging around for those inside pockets is not easy when the bag is full. The inside pockets are positioned along the sides and back of the bag, all except one are in a vertical position. Well, when I'm wearing the bag across my back, I just swing the bag around to open it and I am opening the bag in a horizontal position, with the zippered opening facing up at me. Isn't that how most purses look when we open them?

I try putting water bottles in the outside rear pocket. It looks made for that. They stay there until the purse goes sideways (I.e., I swing the bag around to open it).

Maybe I'm not supposed to swing the bag around the way I do, but it's the easiest way to get into my bag. Just wish the pockets were designed with that in mind.

Pros:
+easier on the back than a backpack
+well-made, quality material will last

Cons:
-most pockets are impractical to use

SUMMARY

For the most part, the bag is just one huge receptacle where I throw everything on my trips. It does what it says it does with regard to being easier on my back. I wouldn't use it as an everyday bag because it's too big for me to use that way and the pockets would leave me frustrated. Overall, it's a quality bag and I do like using it for trips.

I have had this bag for ten -- count 'em 10 -- years. After a decade as my everyday purse, it's finally starting to show its age, so without hesitation I'm going to buy a direct replacement. (My only argument with myself is whether I should invest in the leather version.)

I over-stuff my purse, demonstrating to my husband that yes, a woman's purse IS a black hole from which anything might emerge... and its weight shows it, too. But this bag has never complained no matter how many items I shove into it. Because of the microfiber, the bag has gone through the washing machine and dryer (on delicate, just for safety's sake) so it has continued to look good.

I'm a klutz, too, so I have long appreciated that almost EVERYthing can be closed up with a zipper. This has saved me from many "dump my bag upside down" experiences, so I have no qualms about using a purse that is not uber-fashionable.

I've had the medium microfiber bag for about 3 years.I have washed it about 6 times and used spot removers, each time it has come out looking like new. It does not fade or fray in the washing machine and air dries quickly. While not the most fashionable bag, I have used it almost every day. I bought it so I could stash my camera and a notebook plus maps, cell phone, etc. for a trip overseas. It worked great. I agree the zippered or velcro flap closed pockets are most useful for everyday. I use the inside zippered pockets for drivers license, contact lens emergency kit, and the stash of discount cards. I like the pen/pencil slots (also good for flash drives). Some items do get lost in the depths of the interior at times. I would like more latches to hold sets of keys, flash drives, or other items needing to be readily available. For example, I carry a small key-ring type tape measure and a pocket knife and a small hand lens.

I am looking for a replacement because I overstuffed the outside zippered pocket with 3 sets of keys (12 keys total) plus a cell phone one too many times and damaaged the zipper. It's a great bag and I can't do without it.

I got this bag about a month ago, specifically so I could carry my rather bulky DSLR in my "purse" on a recent flight to California. It was the perfect size and did the job well. (The camera is heavy and whatever bag it goes in must be sturdy.) Now that I am home I am carrying it every day (too expensive to shelve until the camera's next outing!) and find I am as happy as ever with the bag. It is easy to use, with the right number and configuration of pockets; and the "non-slip" section of the shoulder strap is a nice touch. I ordered the "midnight" blue on a whim, and would probably be even happier if it were just a shade darker - but it is dark enough to suit me (and, at that seems slightly darker than the pictures looked on my computer). The micro-fiber fabric is treated to resist dirt, and so far so good. I can see myself ordering a smaller version of this at some point, for times when I don't need to carry the camera or my knitting. But, for now, it is a pleasure to use - and even though it is heavy with the camera in it, it really does seem to distribute the weight well when I'm carrying it on my shoulder.

I've owned this bag for years and never had any problems with it. There seems to always be room for more stuff - it's been through the wash a dozen times, still looks great. No broken zippers or torn seams, velcro still works, no wear showing. It isn't the most attractive, but my priority is function. I've used it for travel, as a diaper bag, both at the same time, and always as my purse...I'm buying another only because I lost the first.

I have been using this Ameribag style for many years. Just got tired of the color of my last one and wanted something new for spring. Holds everything I want to carry in an orderly manor. Easy to find anything quickly and the bag stays out of my way when shopping.

This is my 3rd Ameribag. The first one was a small brown leather bag. It is still my favorite, but after 8 years of daily use it is very well-worn and the zipper finally broke. I bought a medium red nylon bag at a yard sale and it's great for taking on day trips where I need to carry a lot, but a little big for a regular purse. My Amazon purchase was for a small microfiber bag. It's laid out inside exactly like my leather bag and I think I'm going to really like it. The strap is reinforced, so it won't curl. These are the most comfortable bags to carry and they are well laid-out inside. I don't have back problems when carrying this bag and I don't think I'll ever buy another type of handbag!

For someone who has to carry more items on a daily basis, the is a wonderful bag. I am of small build/frame, but have no problems or pain with this bag. It is very comfortable. And I also love all the pockets for keeping things organized.

we recently took a weekend bahamas cruise and this bag was my purse/carryon for the trip..holds more than you'd think, yet carries comfortably with no shoulder or back strain..ordered two, smaller red will be christmas gift

I've had this bag for quite a few years, and it's still my favorite by far. I use it only for travel because it's bigger than I need for everyday. The comfort factor is matched by the space for everything I want with me while I'm sightseeing. The inside zippered compartment is a secure space for my billfold so I never worry about it falling out if I open the bag up wide. There's plenty of space for my phone, a travel document holder, the billfold, a camera, make-up and medicine essentials, and much more. I've carried small shopping bags, my windbreaker, extra socks, and snacks in addition to the regular items. The wide, adjustable strap is much more comfortable than ones on most bags. One last plus is that it's not "girly" so my husband will help carry it on trips if my shoulder gets tired! When mine wears out, I will definitely replace it with another.
