"America in the 1960s," one of several books exploring all the decades of 20th Century America, is a remarkable achievement --- combining fine narrative with excellent photography. For anyone living in (and surviving !) that turbulent decade, the book provides a re-entry into the excitement, at times the sheer joy, at times the severe trauma marking those years. The names Sylvia Plath, Joan Didion, John and Jackie Kennedy, Betty Friedan, Bob Dylan, and Malcolm X were only a few of the persons appearing, and re-appearing in the daily and weekly news. The women's movement, the anti-Vietnam War movement, Martin Luther King and the struggle for civil rights, the Kennedy - Nixon debates, the Kennedy assassination.... all these, and more fill the pages of this path-finding volume. The book is an indispensable resource for anyone researching that era ---- and a brilliant read for everyone with an historical bent.
