Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Just when 81% of Americans are dissatisfied with America’s direction, along comes Conner Giffor, an amazing young man from Nantucket who has Down Syndrome, to make sense of our past. Illustrated with 58 of Connor’s drawings, the 53 insightful profiles span 400 years of America’s journey to ""get it right."" The key themes include: civil rights, women’s rights, why wars begin, religious freedom, individual responsibility. The book changes stereotypes and perception about those with Down Syndrome, Autism, and other special needs. The book is ideal for educators and libraries for its innovative ways it teaches American History.

About the Author
Author Connor Gifford is 26 years old and lives a full life on the island of Nantucket with his family, one of the island’s oldest. He works at three jobs, volunteers for many organizations, is a Board Member of STAR, an innovative provider of services to children with special needs, and works daily to change stereotypes about the capacity of those with special needs. Co-author Victoria Harris, as a single parent led Harris Group in its creation of award-winning branding campaigns for Fortune 500 companies. Her documentary films have won four Golden Eagles and represented the U.S. in international competitions. She lives in Nantucket, is writing a series of adult fables about the power of perception, and completing her first novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great summaries of American history., August 29, 2008
These are great summaries of American history. Gifford gets to the heart of the matter. A good way to introduce a variety of topics to kids and a refresher for adults.
