This review is from: America Is Born: A History for Peter (Hardcover)
America is Born, by the noted historian, Gerald Johnson, is a book I just stumbled on last year out in the garage...and luckily for me, I also found the next two books in this series of three.
All three of the books I found fascinating, but perhaps this first one is the most interesting of them all. All three books have the sub-title, A History for Peter...Peter being the young grandson of the author Johnson.
These books were intended to be young adult, as indeed they are, but I found that I learned, and re-learned, a great deal of American history by reading them.
I think the best recommendation I can give to this set of books is that when I had finished reading the last of them...I went on Amazon and bought additional copies of them. I wanted to keep the set I found in the garage, they'd belonged to my parents, both of whom were life long students of American history...but I also wanted other copies to give as gifts to my own grown kids, with the aim that some day when they have children, they could read these books to them. I am sure that in doing so, they will be entertained, their children will be also, and all of them will learn a good deal of history in the process. Highly recommended.
