5.0 out of 5 stars Great show!
A wonderful, and for the first time in DVD, complete concert.

This, together with the OHNE FILTER In Concert from 1999, are the best America DVD's. Skip the Central Park DVD due to terrible sound quality.

2.0 out of 5 stars Time Has Passed Them By
I used to be in an acoustic group in college (I'm 52 now) and cannot sing close to the way I used to. America has the same problem. No one liked these guys better than I did and I had everyone of their songs on this DVD memorized. However, I just turned it off after the third song. I don't want my memory of their harmonies to be ruined. If you just want to hear their...

5.0 out of 5 stars HISTORICAL AMERICA, May 26, 2006
This review is from: America: In Concert - Live at the Sydney Opera House (DVD)
I have been an America fan since the release in 1972 of the self titled America album. They chose to start a majoirity of their album titles with an H if you noticed, starting with Homecoming. What happend to America? After 33 years they sould even better than ever despite th absence of Dan Peek. Gerry's voice has improved with age. Dewey's voice was a little weak, but overall he handled his part well. They included several choice albums cuts, i.e. Company, Three Roses, Woman Tonight along with all of their big hits. The sound is aweseome. Great band complements Gerry and Dewey's outstanding guitar work. They have always been acknowledged for their singing and writing, but their skills on the guitar shine on this DVD. Opening with Riverside and closing with the required A Horse With No Name, you are treated to an outstanding performance. The only negative critique that I have is that on Woman Tonight, the song itself has three different tempos and sounds strange, however they pull it off without even the vocals of Dan Peek. Great DVD with over 2 and a half hours of sure greatness. I have been waiting for 20 years for "the" America DVD. Here it is. Buy it. Enjoy it. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It !!!, January 26, 2007

This DVD came to me as a birthday present for my 46th year this past December. And of all the presents I got this is the one I am enjoying the most! Great venue and song selection. The musical arrangments in America's songs take my breath away.

It all (re)started a couple of years ago when my boyfriend joined a music club where one gets like 10 CDs for a buck. One of the selections he chose was America's Greatest Hits. I was reminded both of how much I loved and missed the music. I went online to the band's website and have started been keeping track of them ever since. Thus began a reunion with myself and the band's music and I have been happy ever since.

We are sort of news junkies around here but with all the depressing stuff on TV nowadays I have started putting the America DVD in the player instead of tuning into the nightly news during dinner hour and you know...what a nice way to begin the evening!

Now all I need to do is get tickets to see the show when the band comes to Pennsylvania later this year. Oh yeah, and get a copy of the America 2001 concert, hey-why not?!

AMERICA does 24 songs live, the sound & vocals are just fabulous. This disk contains an extra special ALL MY LIFE performance by GERRY BECKLEY. AMERICA has been making music for over 30 years & they continue to record & tour - and they love their work and it shows. The interview is one of the best ever, GERRY & DEWEY's intellectual side is brought out in the discussions about life in the music business. GERRY just released his 2nd solo HORIZONTAL FALL (a real gem) & AMERICA will release a new CD in the fall under the Sony label Burgundy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth owning for America fans, August 20, 2006
This review is from: America: In Concert - Live at the Sydney Opera House (DVD)
I agree with the singing comments mentioned by other reviewers, but still liked enough to recommend to you. I think the concert is well shot, very relaxing, and has good sound quality. It's one that I could see putting in every so often to enjoy over and over, unlike many others of mine. They sing all the greats and put forth a lot of genuine effort for a good show. Gerry's voice is palatable after it gets warmed up. I'm not saying he's Dennis DeYoung, Jeff Lynne, or Paul Rodgers, but still decent enough to enjoy throughout the entire concert. I just wish that he wouldn't have mopped up 2/3 of "You can do Magic" before getting more on track, as I really like that one...I thought Dewey actually sounded pretty good though. You'll like this DVD if you like America's hits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like fine wine, America just gets better; this DVD is a MUST!, May 26, 2007

I bought this DVD as a Christmas present to myself after seeing them on
"Soundstage". This is a musical concert masterpiece. If you haven't seen
America or heard them since the 70s, you are in for a special treat. They
sound BETTER than the records, after almost 35+ years. The sound and the
camera work is perfect. America is the epitome of professionalism. If any
budding musicians want to see a tight, rehearsed, seasoned band playing
great classic songs, this is the one DVD concert to own. Everything about
this concert is just flawless, from beginning to end. You forget just how
many hits they had and how they crafted all those unique songs. No other
group from that era or NOW even comes close. The musicianship by the band
is awesome, especially Michael Woods and longtime drummer Willie Leacox.
You will be knocked out by the overall performance and quality. Buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars America's Best, July 15, 2006
This review is from: America: In Concert - Live at the Sydney Opera House (DVD)
Granted Dewey's voice is not the same we have inprinted in our heads, but this DVD is highly recommended for a number of reasons:
the quality of the songs, the song list and the very good image and sound quality.

I enjoyed very much having a set of their 70's repertoire as well as the 80's songs like You Can Do Magic and The Border.

If you like America do not hesitate and buy it.
