Sam Francis was a brilliant writer and cogent analyst. He died a little over a year ago after a career of exemplary journalistic endeavors, dealing with a number of subjects, especially immigration; anyone who has ever read his columns, if they have a drop of common sense in them and care at all for America, misses him and the insight he shared. America Extinguished is a collection of his columns between 1998 and 2000 relating to the invasion of America by Third World immigrants and the decline of the West. It is extremely helpful in understanding the immigration debacle America is now suffering through.

He pinpoints the reasons that the U.S. government refuses to stop illegal immigration or slow legal immigration, and he also makes it very clear why ordinary Americans want immigration to be slowed down.

Perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of the columns is how he exposes the utter and total stupidity of the Republican Party, which has totally misread the meaning of the immigrant invasion it has allowed to occur for the good of its powerful business allies. Most Hispanics vote Democrat and with more and more of them coming, less and less power will be in Republican hands.

As for why immigration should be opposed, here are some of the reasons Francis gives:

1. Assimilation simply is not happening.
2. Continued mass immigration will cause continuing conflict in America and may eventually result in Balkanization.
3. American government will have to be authoritarian in the future in order to hold the various ethnic groups together under a common political unit.
4. Mass immigration is destroying the American middle class.
5. Mass immigration is increasing poverty rates.
6. Many Americans lose jobs because of immigration.
7. Immigrants have high crime rates and thousands of the people flooding across the border are criminals.
8. Mass immigration is causing Americans to pay an increased amount of welfare costs and costs for public benefits.
9. The environment, natural resources and urban infrastructure will be strained if immigration - legal and illegal - continues at such an astonishing rate..
10. Not a few immigrants are bringing with them diseases (particularly tuberculosis) that could spread quite rapidly if mass immigration does not cease.

Overall, America Extinguished is an entertaining and incisive book.
