Russo has done a good introduction to some of the ills that are facing this nation and the world. This documentary is a starting point for information that more people need to know, discuss and share. He has appropriately singled out the Federal Reserve as public enemy no. 1. (The other side being that we could really use a moral and spiritual re-awakening, but I count Russo and this documentary as being part of that.)

A previous reviewer has made comments about the Fed that are quite inaccurate and Russo is on the mark. The Fed did not end the "run on banks", the act creating the Federal Depository Insurance Corp did that and is totally separate from the Fed. The fact is more banks failed after the creation of the Fed than at any time previously. What the Fed did was consolidate the money creating power behind the largest banks, who own the majority of the Fed. It also gave those same banks an essential monopoly on creating money through the legal tender law. The supposed or stated purpose of the Fed was to stabilize the value of the dollar which was a false pretext as the dollar has lost 96% of its value since the creation of the Fed. Read "The Truth in Money Book" or "The Creature from Jekyll Island" to understand how the Fed and our banking system operates. Our banking system, through charging people interest on what it creates out of thin air, has a hand in everyone's pocket and we would be a much wealthier nation with a different system of creating money.

A few years back (in 2000) I did a calculation to estimate how much we were paying to the banks and other institutions for the "privilege" of our money supply through the payment of interest. It came out to $1500 per year per man, woman and child in the US. I also calculated an estimate of how much it would be if we simply did an accounting system of money creation, based on existing assets, without interest, which is entirely possible and much, much more practical. That came to approximately $150 per person. That means if we had money creation without interest (without usury) everybody in the country on average would have $1350 more money to spend every year. What would that do for our economy and standard of living especially when the multiplier effect is considered? Huh?

The vast majority of people do not understand how our monetary system and the Federal Reserve, that is fractional reserve banking, operate. It is truly the story of "The Emperor Has No Clothes". We think that we go into the bank to borrow other peoples' money and the bank makes its profit from the differential in the interest it pays to account holders and the interest it receives from borrowers. This is a fiction. The money deposited in banks is used to maintain the cash flow of demand accounts such as checking and savings. It is held as a reserve to meet current demands, i.e. withdrawals. The money that is borrowed is created by the bank , it wasn't there before. The amount of reserves limit the amount of money the bank can create. Banks can loan or create 10 times the amount of money that they have in demand deposits. For time deposits such as CDs the multiple is even much greater.

So money in our system is created through debt by borrowers. When we go to a bank and borrow, the money is only then created by a ledger entry, out of thin air, to our account. We agree to pay back the debt plus interest. That is the cost of the money supply. The big problem is that not only is it a very expensive way to create money, only the money we borrowed is created, not the interest that we have contracted to pay back. We live in a system where we never have enough money in total to pay back all the debts that have been contracted. We are always short of money unless the money supply is continually expanded, i.e. inflation. Whenever the Fed wants to get a grip on inflation or slow the expansion of money, it cuts back on the money supply by raising interest rates. This engenders even more shortages of money and a number of people are forced into default, foreclosure and bankruptcy because there simply is not enough money in the market place to cover the debts. This forced default of individuals is inherent in our monetary system. The people who loose are those who are not overly aggressive, greedy or cunning in the market place ... in addition to those who just make bad business choices. In other words, our monetary system encourages even more greed and cunning in the market place than needs to be there. There are a number of other really bad effects of this system but time and space do not allow to express all here. On the whole it really sucks, big time!!! There needs to be a good documentary about this. And then get people to watch it. We need to be more aware about what is going on, 'cause it's a lot and we are paying the price for not knowing and our children will continue to pay the price!

Russo is absolutely accurate in his assessment that we need to get rid of the Fed as the main money creator. It's unconstitutional to boot, though no one in congress or the administration care much about the constitution. After all they are the ones who have been selling us down the river for a long time now.

So it's not just the illegality of the income tax, it is even more the illegality and immorality of the fractional reserve banking system which is embodied in the Fed. We would be a LOT better off without it. Yes, it works, but it works at price where we are slowly being consumed, falling more and more into debt. Already (think national debt, social security and medicare, plus a humongous private debt), if you do accrual accounting, almost all of us are bankrupt! The ones who aren't are the ones who have their money off shore, i.e. international corporations, large banks, old money, and some forward looking individuals, etc.

This film is a good wake up call. I pray that we wake up!!!

I was fortunate enough to have been able to catch this film in one of its limited theatrical showings. I was in stunned silence through the showing as was the rest of the hall even though I was aware of most of this information. During the ending credits it recieved a standing ovation.

This DVD is available now if not on Amazon try infowars. com They have it now.

Get this movie any way you can, show it your friends. Get multiple copies and pass them around.

This movie shows the truth about the IRS and the Federal Reserve. Every American needs to see this movie to understand how we are being sold into slavery.

This movie is stunning in the way it presents the information. If you anyone who is skeptical about the impending takeover and destruction of our republic, this movie can wake up even the most skeptical.

Aaron Russo has generated a masterpiece here.

See this while you still can.

The Film

Determined to find the law that requires American citizens to pay income tax, producer Aaron Russo ("The Rose," "Trading Places") set out on a journey to find the evidence. This film which is neither left, nor right-wing is a startling examination of government. It exposes the systematic erosion of civil liberties in America since 1913 when the Federal Reserve system was fraudulently created. Through interviews with U.S. Congressmen, a former IRS Commissioner, former IRS and FBI agents and tax attorneys and authors, Russo connects the dots between money creation, federal income tax, and the national identity card which becomes law in May 2008. This ID card will use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips which are essentially homing devices used to track people. This film shows in great detail and undeniable facts that America is moving headlong into a fascist police state. Wake up!" From the Movie site...

Russo wanted to understand the law enabling the collection of the federal income tax. What he discovered will sober you and perhaps spur you to take action.

Aaron Russo is a respected Hollywood producer ("Trading Places" "The Rose") who has furthered the careers of Bette Midler and Led Zeppelin (back in the late 1960s).

In this self-narrated documentary, Russo interviews tax protestors, former IRS agents and former IRS commissioner Cohen. The latter was clearly surprised by Russo's questions and abruptly stopped the interview. The offending question? "Where is the specific law, statute that mandates individuals pay a federal income tax?" When Cohen, and other IRS agents were questioned, their answers were the same: evasive, hostile, but no concrete citation of law. There would seem to be no law.

Beyond the question of the legality of the 16th amendment and its intent, is the transfer of the government's right to coin money to a private cartel known at the Federal Reserve Board. This board is not a government agency, but a private group of bankers and investors. They are virtually anonymous and cannot be held accountable. Particulary chilling is a quote from David Rockefeller, that he and the business interests know what is 'best' for Americans.

Further interviews with Houston Congressman Ron Paul turned up other mischief on the part of government: the RFID chip and the national ID card. Have you received the email with the joke about the guy trying to order pizza, and the pizza cashier knows absolutely all his business? I just cancelled a credit card and spoke to a girl in India who had all my ID numbers, folks - all of them - including my Social Security Number - if you have an older SSN card, it clearly states: not to be used for identification purposes. Rep. Paul suggests Americans are but a few steps away from being serfs. IN May of 2008, all Americans will be required to have the National ID; plans are now being made to 'chip' all Americans with the RFID so their everymove will be known and all money will be chipped in order to 'follow' where the money goes.

You can decide Russo (and I) are nut cases; so be it. But decide that AFTER you see the film. Visit the website: [...] , try to see the movie and decide for yourself.

This documentary resonated with me because it seemed to echo my own thoughts and observations about our government and more importantly this war on terror. Think about all the changes made under the banner of "security" and "freedom". This film will give you that and a whole lot more to munch on but it's not all doom and gloom. There are organizations out there leading the fight against a world government and the total erosion of our liberties. A big thumbs up to Aaron Russo for putting himself out there in the public light where I am sure it is going to cause him problems.

Before I say anything, I say this, WATCH THIS FILM BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!!

Americans need to be informed about what is going on with this country, and this film shows the reality of America. Since 1913, we have been slowly becoming a police state controlled by the government. Government is the servant, not the people. This documentary shows a compelling look into the Federal Reserve system and how it is taking control of our economy and our standard of life. The Federal Reserve bank is a private bank, so none of the money is spread out among the people. Our income taxes are going nowhere. But more importantly, we are starting to slowly lose our privacy. In 2008, an ID act is going to become law and everyone is going to need a specific ID from the government in order to board planes, trains, and open bank accounts. And this ID is equipped with RFID technology which gives away signals through radio waves. Someone, somewhere, will know where you are at all times. This documentary will show the horrors of what is happening to our rights as Americans. So the real question is this, are you willing to give up your privacy to fight "terrorism?" And is it worth the price? Do you want to live in fear or do you want to live for freedom?

"A life lived in fear is a life half lived"

There is nothing that I can say that wasn't said in the first review. My point is simple. Everyone MUST watch this. Everyone in America must watch this film and see the truth. We must stand together, we must protect the constitution and stop all of the unconstitutional, illegal activities being conducted by the American government. We Americans are not free, we are being lied to. Watch this movie and tell me you are not outraged, that you are not ready to stand and defend your freedom and constitutional rights. Only the common people of America can protect the consitution, our rights, and our freedom.

I just purchased 10 copies and will be renting this DVD for free in my video store. It's that important.

Income taxes are an abomination and were never intended to exist in this country. It wasn't "by mistake" that the founders of this country "omitted" a personal income tax in the Constitution. They didn't "omit" it - they forbid it! They told Congress that the only way they could legally raise funds for the governance of this Nation were the methods clearly delineated in Article 1, Section 8 and specifically forbid an income tax and other shady methods of ripping the people off in the following Section (9) of the same Article. They intentionally put Congress on a budget and made the methods of raising revenue so simple and onerous that, if they tried to step out of line, the people would be sure to rise up and slap them back into place. But that wasn't good enough for the cheating, lying, thieving, backstabbing, double-talking, no-good scoundrels we somehow manage to keep on electing, was it? Oh, no. No sirree, Bob. Not nearly enough. Now look at the mess we all have to contend with.

Consider this:

Suppose you lived above a small shop that you owned and operated in a nice quiet neighborhood. Business is okay, though nothing to scream about. You are happy and content and you are not hurting anyone. You consider yourself to be an upstanding citizen. Your business is one that brings goods and/or services the community needs and you provide jobs for others - both in the shop, and by purchasing your goods and business supplies from wholesalers.

One day a couple of burly young fellows with Italian sounding names and Brooklyn accents walk in and comment on what a nice life you've made for yourself. Pretty shop, pretty family, nice customers - be a shame if anything happened to all that...

You try to be nice because you're a bit naïve. You smile and explain to them that you have insurance for those types of things and besides, this is a quiet neighborhood and nothing like that ever really happens. The bruisers laugh and explain the facts of life to you. They don't want to hurt you or your family or your business - but you are living in their little piece of paradise, and they have a lot of needy mouths to feed. They are here to protect you from all that nastiness, and it's really not cheap or easy keeping those thugs from the next neighborhood away from here. You have to step up to the plate! You have to get with the program and pay your fair share!

The whole time they are explaining things to you they are also moving closer. Very imposing, and you notice that somewhere along the line they've stopped smiling. Something goes "Click!" inside your brain and you suddenly see things the way they really are. You ask them how much it's going to take to be considered a productive and "patriotic" neighborhood citizen. The smiles return and you realize it's okay to take another breath. It's not easy, but you manage to keep from swallowing your own tongue.

The smaller of the two Cro-Magnons wraps his tree-sized limb across the back of your shoulders and gives you what he figures is a comradely little shake and while your senses are still reeling in adjustment he explains how much they "value your contribution to society" and how they wouldn't want to put you out of business by asking for too much. "Golden Duck." The big one quips over his shoulder as he walks across to the room to the cash register. "Yeah!" the little one agrees, "we wouldn't want to kill the Golden Duck, now would we?" You notice (aside from the fact that you're dealing with literary geniuses) that he has recently ingested large quantities of garlic and the Altoids he swiped off your shelf don't seem to be working.

You don't want to piss him off so you just slowly shake your head and (inhaling when you're facing away from him) hope that's the response he's looking for. Apparently it is because he goes on to explain that you'll be required to pay 20% of whatever you take in. "In Advance" says talkative one as he opens your till and starts counting bills. Somehow he's figured out how to run an X report and you can't quite wrap your mind around that.

The little guy goes on to tell you the rules. You have to pay. There's no way around it and you have to pay in full and on time. You can't cheat. If you cheat, and they find out, you'll pay a lot more than you can afford, and they will have to rough you up a little as an example to the others. Maybe even rough up your family a little too, just to get the point across. If you're late or if you are short, you pay a fine. The longer it takes you to pay the fine (as well as make up any shortages) the greater the fine becomes. That's a deep hole you don't want to get into. As long as you continue to pay in full and on time, there won't be too many "visits" like this one. "If we see that you've paid too much, we'll kick a little back to you at the end of the year. Give you something to buy all those Christmas presents with. You see? We're not such bad guys, and we really want to see you do well! Oh yeah - if you have any employees? Well, we'd really appreciate it if you collected their fair share for us. You can just take it out of their paycheck each week and send it in. We'll take care of the rest, and if they have any problems, you tell them to come see us. We'll be happy to straighten them out."

The little guy grins and releases your shoulders. It seems like they are about ready to leave. With the weight off your shoulders you feel almost as if you might float up to the ceiling. That, or pass out. Hard to tell. The big guy is stuffing an astonishingly large wad of your cash into his pocket. You don't know if it's 20% or 100% and you really don't care because, Thank God!, it really looks like they are getting ready to leave. No Luck.

The big guy bends down and whispers in your ear: "If you mess with us, we will destroy you - but not before we destroy your family and your reputation. Then we'll take your business and your property and anything else that you have left and give it to someone who knows how to show us the proper respect. We'll be watching you. We are always watching you. Remember that, and do the right thing. Have a nice day, sir."

As they leave the shop, you decide that you're going to call the big one Shakespeare. He really seems to have a way with words...

The above scenario is what is known as a "protection racket." It is prosecutable by law. If you feel sufficiently reckless, you might go to the police and file a restraining order in a court of law. In which case, if you were dealing with the mob, you would wind up very dead, or very non-existent. There's really not much of a difference. OR you might go to the FBI who would want you wired and would put up cameras in your shop in an attempt to capture the evidence - and the results would be pretty much the same unless you were very, very lucky, managed to make it through the witness stage, and joined the witness protection program.

Of course, we're not talking about "The Mob," are we? We are talking about the government. The bruisers are actually lightweights in knock-off Brooks Brothers suits. They are auditors for the IRS. These are not the enforcers - they are the bad accountants who couldn't make it in the real world, but get off on threatening productive Citizens with, apparently (at least as far as YOU know) the full force of the government behind them. Unfortunately, if you attempt to resist them, that's when they call in the real enforcers and then it's pretty much all she wrote. Your "Duck" is cooked.

But if you are offended by the thought of a bunch of gangsters conducting themselves in this manner (and God help you if you are not!), how could you possibly be any less offended when the Government does exactly the same thing (and worse) under the guise of the Income Tax!?! If anything, you should be even more outraged. Keep in mind that if anyone else tries to do this IT's ILLEGAL!!!

Get the picture? WATCH THE MOVIE!!!

Some 10-15 years from now, this movie, along with some others, such as TerrorStorm and Loose Change, will be considered classics, which gave birth to the movement that ignited the New American Revolution. Then, your compatriots, and of course, your children, will ask you, where were you, and what did you do during that crucial time in order to save your country, to support the true American patriots like Aaron Russo and Alex Jones? Will you have an answer? Will you be honest with yourself?

How do I know this? Simple. Because we are living in a surreal world that is based on a monumental lie everywhere: in politics, economy, mass media, culture, you name it. And of course, historically, all lies ultimately fell apart. The above-mentioned movies are eye-openers as they expose different aspects of these interconnected lies and pose an inevitable question of what to do next? Now, it is up to you, folks, whether you prefer to distant yourself from the big lie, to live with it, or to demolish it, shred it into pieces, in the name of the future of your country, your children, the humanity, if you will. The "Freedom to Fascism" goes straight to the heart of the problem as it exposes its driving force, the engine of the new world order machine. Hats off to Aaron Russo for his bravery and courage!

Don't be hypocritical. It's not just about non-paying taxes. It's about American Liberty that has been sold to and is being raped by a private bank cartel, in a violation of the very Constitution of this country, as the worst insult to its Founding Fathers. Don't trust this movie if you wish and do your own unbiased research. I bet you will soon realize that the Liberty ends once you allow accepting out of thin air-created, backed by nothing (but a promise of corrupt bankers) paper "money" for your hard work.

Freedom is expensive; you have to deserve it, and you have to fight for it, just like your Forefathers did. But the clash is inevitable, because there will be more than plenty of us willing to sacrifice whatever it takes for the noble cause of Freedom; because the instinct of Freedom (if it is present) is the most powerful of human instincts. Watch this movie, draw your own conclusions, and make up your mind: it might be crucial for the outcome of the upcoming clash.

Aaron Russo has produced many successful films but very likely his most passionate motives lie in his political viewpoints. Russo is a Libertarian with a capital L. He ran for president in 2004 and lost in the primary to Michael Badnarick. Of course, any third party candidate has his hands full with the Democrat and Republican voters. I could probably talk about what it means to be a libertarian for a million lines and how my state doesn't recognize the party anymore. I will say that if you're compelled by some of Russo's insights then I highly recommend you continue to research the fundamental principals of libertarianism as a political philosophy. With that said, Russo is extreme in some respects but I will attempt to go forth reviewing this film with an oversight of this information and that America: From Freedom to Fascism does present to us the facts as they are viewed by Russo. Many will contend some of his key points and others will criticize his presentation. It is propaganda but then again everything in this genre is. Don't let the banter and acid tongues out there intimidate you. Just sit back, take it all in and go along for the ride.

Russo presents his case that Americans have seen a gradual erosion of our civil liberties since the early part of the 20th century. In various interviews he paints his picture clear that we are leading toward an inevitable police state. I'm not going to get into the nuts and bolts of his arguments, suffice to say it's provoking and opinionated, but not without merit. Like many documentarians, politics is Russo's engine and the film is his train. We are the passengers and by the end of the trip we are left to ponder all the facts and challenge ourselves to believe, dissent, or abstain...and we may even ignore but I definitely don't recommend it. This is the format for all documentaries of this ilk from all political sides. I have to say, it was nice to see something other than Republican or Democrat propaganda and instead hear the little Libertarian party view for once. But it is kind of a shame that Russo is not as articulate or as humorous as many. It was also sad to see this worthy standpoint once again placed on a shoestring budget, much like the party's political campaigns. Nevertheless, Russo provokes, and his passion alone will demand the attention of most viewers.

Russo has endorsed Republican Congressman Ron Paul for president. Ron Paul is the guy who questioned America's accountability in the 9/11 attacks at a recent debate and Rudy Guiliani responded vehemently. Paul did not assert that our government was involved but that our policies have contributed to the thinking that justified such a gruesome attack. Fox News presented this as if he was a 9/11 "truther", you know, like Rosie O'Donnell or Charlie Sheen. Few have reason to read into the story beyond Fox's presentation, so the perception stands to some degree in many folks' eyes. It's disgusting but that is what we are up against as a strict two-party system and a society with simple sound-bite driven mainstream political perspectives. Few even know what third parties are much less actually consider voting for them. It's a rare treat to see a documentary that gives another perspective some attention, no matter how obscure the film may be.

Some recommended reading to supplement your experience with this film or your experience in understanding the American Libertarian party's ethos: The Constitution of the United States (someone very helpfully specified Section 10 in an post on another review), A Monetary History of the United States 1867-1960, The Real ID Act of 2005, A History of Money and Banking in the United States: The Colonial Era to World War II, Human Action: A Treatise on Economics, What It Means to Be a Libertarian, and The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve.
