Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: America Moves Forward a History for Peter (Hardcover)
I just now happened to see that I'd bought this book on Amazon some time ago, but had never reviewed it...perhaps I did review one of the other two books in this series of three; I'm not sure.
Both my parents (great readers and true intellectuals each of them) died in the past few years and I inherited many thousands of their books. I've been going through them, picking up books and reading a few pages, a chapter, seeing if it hooks me. America Moves Forward is one of a series of three, all with the sub-title, A History for Peter. Peter was the grandson of the author, and he started to write the history of the US in such a way so that it would be entertaining, and useful for a young boy. As such, this is history that is perfectly acceptable for any and all young adults...but it is more than that, it is history that is so well-written and interesting that it would be a fine choice for any of us. I was very lucky and found all three books in this series in the garage, all in nice shape, and I read all three of them, totally fascinated all the time. In the process I learned a great deal that I'd either forgotten, or had never learned. I liked the books so much that I got on Amazon and bought more copies, so that I could give them to my own grown children. Hopefully as they have kids of their own, they'll read these books to them. I highly recommend this entire series to you to read yourself & also suggest you consider buying the set as a present to give away to someone you care about. If history was this interesting way back when I was in school, I'd have been a much better student. |
