Can't Believe "Desperado" isn't on here,
By A Customer
This review is from: In America [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
I can't believe that "Desperado" as sung by Sarah Bolger isn't on this soundtrack -- it's a terrible shame. I would've bought this CD just for that track, but alas, it's not on the CD. How about a CD single?

I know most people here want to know more about where to find Sarah Bolger's ethereal version of Desperado. I did some research and I found an interview done by filmireland.net which asked Sarah the all important question: WILL THE SONG EVER GET RELEASED?Sadly, Sarah's answer is "There is a chance it might be released further down the line, but I'm not sure I'm not sure"; however, the interview did mention that DJs in Ireland have been playing the song there. So if we all call into our favorite radio stations, we could create a "Jerry Maguire" phenomenon and speed up this song's release! Here is the snipet from the interview regarding the song: FI: I want to ask you Sarah about the song Desperado, which I think was one of the most moving moments in the film. How did it come about that you sang the song? SB: You're the first person to ask me about that. It started off with both of us, we were meant to sing a song for our parents in the film and Emma was supposed to sing either Desperado or a song by U2. And then it changed over to me... EB: Yeah but how did it change over to you that's what I want to know? SB: Jim had heard some kids singing a version of the song. FI: Was it Canadian kids, from the Langley Schools project? SB: Yeah it was - and he just loved it, the idea just came form there. Jim gets ideas from all over the place. I was brought out to Gavin [Friday], Maurice [Seezer] and Bono and we recorded it together. FI: And you got to sing the song live on The Late Late Show tribute to Jim, how was that experience? SB: Brilliant, I was only on for a few minutes but it was great fun. To tell you the truth I was so nervous going on live, I've never sang in front of a live audience. I asked them could I hold the microphone instead of on a stand cos I wouldn't know what to do with my hands, I was shaking though. FI: I heard the song on Today FM and it got great reaction from people, the DJ mentioned they don't have a recording of it but that you had brought it in on CD to them, it's a pity it didn't end up on the soundtrack. SB: There is a chance it might be released further down the line, but I'm not sure. ***

A word of warning is due. I don't own this CD yet, but I may buy it if the price comes down (any good and worthy CD that is cheap enough will always be worth buying!) or when the missing two tracks are inserted into it. I've heard a few of the 15 tracks (from various sources) and they are quite good, but I would really like to see the two tracks to make it even better. However, there is a partial answer to the problem of Sarah Bolger's missing track. If you goto www.colby.edu/personal/s/smak you can download the "DVD" version of her rendition of "Desperado" on mp3. It goes for 2:10 and is copied off the DVD but is encoded at 192kbps and at 44kHz. It is a 3.1MB download. It is a pity in day and age that people have to do this. Record companies complain of illegal downloading of music but if they don't give the people what they want, I can understand why people want to do it! I'm lucky. I only got interested in the movie after doing extensive internet research into the "Innocence & Despair" CD and finding a strong association in many articles. So, I've never had the problem of missing Sarah Bolger's fine singing effort! And, if you miss the Lovin' Spoonful's "Do You Believe In Magic?", simply buy the "Parent Trap" soundtrack. (The movie that stars Lindsay Lohan!) I now own this CD. I brought in on March 21, 2006 for a very cheap price at a retail store (it was 66% off normal price!) and it is quite good for what I paid for it. It still needs the missing two tracks to make really, really good.
