This review is from: Medals of America Presents Decorations, Medals, Ribbons, Badges and Insignia of the United States Air Force: The First 50 Years (Hardcover)
The book title tells the story: all the wings, medals, ribbons, and badges, from World War II to today, illustrated and explained in this comprehensive guide to the insignia of the U.S. Air Force and its predecessor organizations. The award criteria are all thoroughly covered, with supplementary information on the evolution of wings, rank insignia, and other heretofore confusing matters. Additional advice is given on wearing, display, and post-service application for medals by veterans, retirees, and families. The coverage is complete and this work will be an excellent resource for veterans, military history buffs, and collectors alike.

This review is from: Army Air Force and United States Air Force: Decorations, Medals, Ribbons, Badges and Insignia 1941 to 1947 (Paperback)
THIS IS AN EXCELLANT SOURCE FOR ALL THINGS UNITED STATES ARMY AIR FORCE DURING WORLD WAR II.THE BOOK EXPLAINS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF EACH AWARD AND ITS ATTACHMENTS. IT ALSO NOTES SOME OF THE AVAILABLE GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE SOURCES FOR MEDALS, PATCHES, RANK, AND INSIGNIA AS SHOWN IN THIS BOOK. HOWEVER, AN INTERNET SEARCH USING "UNITED STATES ARMY AIR FORCE" REVEALS EVEN MORE SOURCES. I COULD NOT HAVE COMPLETED MY FATHERS SHADOW BOX WITHOUT THIS BOOK. ONE NOTE,THE MILITARY RANK SHOWN IN THE BOOK IS RARE AND HARD TO FIND OR COMPLETELY OBSOLETE,BUT AT LEAST YOU HAVE THE INFORMATION NEEDED TO COMPLETE A DIAGRAM FOR A SHADOW BOX.

Very Basic, If you have ever served not much to learn from this book,

This review is from: Medals of America Presents Decorations, Medals, Ribbons, Badges and Insignia of the United States Air Force: The First 50 Years (Hardcover)
I found this book to be very basic in nature. If you have never served in the Air Force and know nothing about the different Decorations, Medals, Ribbons, Badges or Insignia of the Air Force then this is the book for you. If you have served, don't waste your money. You probably know everything this book has to offer. I was mostly disappointed by the lack of coverage on different types of Enlisted Stripes. By my calculations there are around 15-20 different styles of AF enlisted stripes that were approved for wear since the AF was established. This book covers only one style, the style for the blues, very sad. Also, there is way too much black and white illistration, come on guys it is 2006, we have ways to print these books in color.
