Fantastic!,
By A Customer
This review is from: America Remembers Johnny Horton (Audio CD)
This is by far the greatest collection I've seen in some time. All songs are original, which is what I want and apparently is not easy to find. No digitizing, just the pure original sound. 20 songs of Johnny's best. I'll never get tired of listening to it! The small story on Johhny Horton's life inside the cover was great, too bad it was so short. I'd rate it 10 stars of the rating went that high!

This collection showcases Johnny Horton's fantastic voice and wide range - he could sing it all, from stirring patriotic songs and historical mini-epics to moving ballads and even rockabilly. Of course, all the hits are here, like the irresistible "Battle of New Orleans" (which I listened to incessantly as a kid in the Sixties) and "North to Alaska," to name two personal favorites. They just don't write `em like this any more, and more's the pity. You won't be able to resist singing along, I guar-an-tee it! I regret this collection doesn't include a sentimental favorite of mine, "The Same Old Tale that the Crow Told Me," the flip side of "Sink the Bismarck." Despite that very minor quibble, this is a rousing CD, chock-full of unabashed pride and patriotism. You'll love it.

I have had this "album" on cassette tape for YEARS! I grew up with this type of music and it's great for road trips -- keeps everyone awake and alert.

Johnny Horton, the Greatest,

Johnny Horton's songs are unique. The tragedy of his death robbed the music world of possibly many others like the ones in this CD. Most of them are of historical significance. For me, "Johnny Reb" is the best. It portrays my own ancestors as they faced the final showdown with the Yankees. I have an autographed copy, sent to me by Johnny Horton. I will always treasure it, with tears in my eyes as I listen to it.

Great album,

Since Johnny was known best for his historical songs, a compilation only seemed natural; although you'd do yourself a great disservice not to check out his other works....Johnny Horton could croon with the best of them. With the likes of the obese, donut-munching, American-hating Steve Earle being heralded today, it's absolutely refreshing to look back and
reflect on a time when real men unabashedly sang truly patriotic songs. You can almost smell the bourbon and Lucky Strikes. Get the album; it's worth every penny.

history songs--and more,

To my way of thinking, only two good history songs weren't sung by jJohnny Horton--"Old 97," and "Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald." Other than that, if it's history songs you want, it's Johnny Horton, and it's probably on this album. one missing is "John Paul Jones," but I'm sure that's around somewhere. mixed in with the historicals are the irresistible "Sleepy Eyed John," and "Sal's got a Sugar L Lip," both as down-home as a South Carolina man could want, and other great stuff from a singer who died far too young. Only now, with CD's can you really get much Johnny Horton. I heard "Battle of New Orleans," as a boy, and the record was next to impossible to locate. with this CD, and maybe one or two more, I'll have as much Johnny Horton as a guy needs.

The toe-tappin music adds to the catchy lyrics. If you haven't heard the Battle of New Orleans you are going to laugh your _ _ _ off. And if you don't know the story of the battleship Bismark, you will after this. And the rest of the songs will make you wonder why you don't regularly hear them. Its that good!!! The music and the lyrics are crystal clear.
