4.0 out of 5 stars not a linear recital of events, July 1, 2009
This review is from: America in the World: The Historiography of US Foreign Relations since 1941 (Paperback)
The book spans from the US entry into World War 2 till 1995, just after the end of the Cold War. Key topics include the decision by Truman to drop atomic bombs on Japan to the founding of NATO and the declaration of the Truman Doctrine against the Soviet Union.

However, the book is not a linear recital of events. The many distinguished contributors argue over major decisions and events, and the rightness of such decisions. It is not meant as an introductory history text. The narratives are heavily footnoted, as befitting a scholarly assessment.
