Managing Expectations!,

You obviously are looking at this item because you enjoy the natural beauty of wood. Otherwise you would have already purchased some ugly resin or aluminum lounge at Target or Walmart. For a small investment in time, money, and effort you can have a good quality lounge at a great price. I took up another reviewer's advise and spent a little extra time sanding a few rough spots and finishing it off with a nice marine varnish. If you just want to buy it and put it together you'll most likely find that it doesn't meet all your expectations (It's not teak, so don't expect the same quality). The extra time I placed into it (.5 hour/lounge) made it worth while and proved to be very gratifying. You don't need to be craftsman to make some self improvements. All you need is: * I did have to use some wood glue for a loose but unconcerning piece. My thought process on an average rating of 4:

You can't go wrong buying this Chaise Lounge. As noted by others, it does need a little sanding here and there. Another minor nit is the 'back' needs to be a few inches taller, or I need to be a few inches shorter. It's not quite tall enough to support my head while sitting upright. If not for that I'd probably give it a 5 star rating. Actual assembly time was about 1/2 hour, not including sanding and applying a finish. I finished mine with Sikkens synthetic marine varnish as I plan on leaving the chair outside year round and it's the only product I've found thus far that holds up for a few years before it needs to be recoated. It also gives the chair the look of teak without the $$$. Due to the salt air near me I also spent $(...) in stainless steel hardware to upgrade the hardware that comes with the chair. The REAL story here is Amazon.com. One of the chairs arrived damaged. I emailed Amazon and they immediately shipped out a replacement. Service as it should be. They deserve 5 STARS for that.

I purchased 2 of these mainly because of the price. I really enjoy them. My husband put them together. ( He was so happy to get to use his power drill) It took about less than a 1/2 hour to put each together. This chair is sturdy but I would't say its top quality. The wood quality is so-so. But what can you expect for the price? The chair's slide out table is very functional. We lie out on them in the evening on these breezy summer nights with a cup of tea , look at the stars, and just talk. This is the life !

Even without the pull out tray this would be a great lounge chair. I bought two and the wood is of good quality -- no severe rough spots or splinters. The corners are champhered (sp) so there are no sharp edges. The ends of post and rails are sanded round. The hardware is either brass or galvanized. The staples used look to be stainless steel. There are very few staples -- a construction shortcut some furniture manufacturers use. The slats are countersunk into the rails. They will not come out. The wood is thick and sturdy: legs, back, slats and rails. The finish was a oil base stain. The manufacturer put a card in the package with the brand so I could buy more to keep the cedar looking top notch! I liked the look so much I am going to wash the deck and stain it too. All the screws were there. All the pieces fit together. I for once did not need to go to the hardware store to complete assembly. I assembled each chaise in about an hour with a Phillips head and slot screwdriver, a Crescent wrench and a hammer. I am a lightweight when it comes to hand tools, so I did get out the drill and pre-bore 4 screw holes. And they recieve the 100% comfy rating from the cat Checkers. She was making herself at home before I could even get the first one put together. (And as been out there every day since!) It gets the same rating from me too! The foot of the bench and the back are slightly curved -- which makes it very comfortable for naps in the sun... Best of all, there's a place to put my coffee!

I agree with the previous reviewer: Quality=3, Comfort=4, Looks=5. Overall I am pleased with the two I bought at a Friday Sale: two for the list price of one! The variations in color is expected and matches the pictures. What I did not expect was 1) how soft the wood actually is. Cedar is not particularly hard, but this oil treated Red Cedar is extremely soft, and much more relevant to durability 2) the seat slats are not solid pieces! I am surprised nobody mentioned this. The bottom side of each slat is pieced together from smaller sections. That explains why some customers experienced splitting. The back slats are solid pieces tough. Perhaps they have done this to prevent sagging. The hardware could have been a little nicer. You can replace it if you like. And a few spares would certainly be nice. One of the self-tapping nuts was not treaded all the way, I had to force open the treads myself. The instructions are very cryptic. But assembly is easy enough only 7 pieces to be assembled. 1) bolt down the front and back legs. I have done this before the table. 2) Screw the sidetable under the seat, make sure the table is in place and sliding easily in and out. 3) attach the back, 4) attach the reclining support. Note that this one has an up and down side, which is not obvious at first. Assembly takes about 30-45 mins. I didn't need to sand. There were no rough spots. Only one of the legs had "splinters" where the curve of the leg ran parallel to the grain. Unless you are really tall you can lean your head back when your heels are off the seat. Slats are rounded, so it is quite comfortable with some natural padding :-) You may need to use a towel or a cushion for some extra padding. The side table is great for all purposes. But remember it is hanging under the seat with some thin screws. Don't lean on it! To sum it up, I think it is a good value even for the regular sale price. And it certainly looks and feels worth much more than what you pay for.

This chaise lounge was very easy to assemble and is quite comfortable to sit in. As previous reviewers mention, the wood used is very rough. Even though I knew this when I purchased the product, I was disappointed to find one entire side of the main piece to be pitted with large splintered areas. Sanding it wouldn't even help, the wood was that damaged. Luckily this is side that I don't see when I use it - if it had been I would have certainly returned the product. But, for the price, it was worth it.

Great loungers, excellent price, and very easy to assemble. I was expected to sand some rough spots (based on previous reviews) but they didn't need it. I thought perhaps the sliding sidetable was just a gimmick, but it's really useful. It slides to either side, is quite stable and extends out enough to hold your book, phone, ice cold beverage, etc. With a chaise lounge cushion purchased at a local store... I've fallen asleep in this chair several times now...

I certainly got what I paid for in this instance. Screws were missing from the installation package, the wood has a laquer finish for preservation that makes the chaise an atrocious color. You need to be careful touching the chair as the wood splinters (I pulled two splinters out of my fingers) and once my husband sat on it, the side rail split about 12 inches. ...

They looked lovely at first, but before the summer was over the middle beams were sagging. I weigh 130 pounds. That was last summer, this year the beams are cracking. If they were solid wood then I don't think they would have broken. Instead they are pieces of wood glued together and don't hold up. The little tray that slides in and out also fell apart into pieces with nails sticking out of them.

I bought 2 of these chairs and within 1 season they were ruined. The wood is flimsy. The slats under the area where you sit all split because instead of using whole pieces of wood, they used joined pieces. A 6 year old climbed on the side table and it broke. I feel that this was totally wasted money. Get something else!
