Updated review: Glove IS stainless wire embedded-:O),

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: American Angler Freshwater Fillet Glove (Sports)
I have had a few days since purchase and I left my original review below to see my original comments so others know other details and why I've upgraded from 2 to 4 stars. I may later update to 5 after I've actually used the glove fileting a bunch of fish. But the fabric seemed soft and I didn't see any stainless and this was the only one that was reasonably priced that said stainless wire so I tried it. But I snipped off the finger tip with scissors to test tip fabric resistance to cutting as it seemed to be missing the wire and I didn't want to risk an injury to test it. When it snipped off easily and cleanly, and I saw no wire, I waas unhappy. But I was playing with the glove to get the feel of it and I pulled some of the fabric from the missing finger tip to test if the yarn would gradually unwind or not. It did start to come apart, but not easily. Then I noted a couple of threads that were heavier and continuous-unlike the others. So I pulled them and the missing stainless wire suddenly appeared. It seems the very tip of the glove is just weave, and the wire doesn't start until 1/4 to 1/2 inch back, reasonable and I expect related to the requirements of manufacturing it as one continuous weave with fingers woven as opposed to sewn, then the tips have to be woven shut. I snipped the single strand of wire with scissors, as it is thin, but I examined it and it clearly is a wire that isinterwoven in the fabric at a good closeness. So I now think that this glove WILL offer good protection from cuts and I know it offers superb grip on slippery fish, from using similar ones before. So now I think this is a very good value and am going to order a second one. I do think it will not protect from point jabs of the knife as the fabric is woven and has loops that spread somewhat. The scissors point went through to my skin easily with minimal pressure. But I think it would stop from penetrating further than the loops woulod expand and certainly would be better than no glove. I think most injuries are probably slicing ones and this clearly will protect from that, probably not to the degree of the $100 stainless gloves, but I think this offers very good protection and may actually update the stars to 5 after my tuna trip to the outerbanks of NC in October. It is only one glove-but that's what you need for fileting as you hold the fish and use a knife with other. It is very flexible and I am 6'5 and a big guy with big hands and the xl ones fit well, just right without bulk or tightness, but everyone's hands are different but this one seems to be an honest xl. I would now recommend this glove and am glad it wasn't advertised falsely!
-------------------previous review I just got my order today-I ordered this glove due to the indicationm of this in the details Product Description The fillet glove is vinyl coated stainless steel wire which resists cutting Seems pretty clear to me, and the reason I bought it. I took it out of the pack and it is a fabric glove. I thought maybe it's kevlar and the vinyl coated wire is embedded in the yarn. So I took a pair of scissors and snipped a point of the finger. It cut off cleanly with no effort. I then examined the thread, thinking maybe it was kevlar and no longer was stainless wire. I pulled a few threads deeper from the end of the missing finger and easily snipped them. So this is just some normal fabric that cuts cleanly with a $4 pair of scissors. So i put the glove on. It fits well. Ambidestrous. I am a big guy with big hands and it was not loose and fit my hand well, so good for working or picking things up. I know from using this type of glove before, it gives amazing grip on a fish flopping around. But it is not a stainless filet glove. I tried poking my hand with the tip of the scissors thinkiing it would stop that maybe, but no, it went right through and would have cut me if Iput any force. I think it might stop a glancing cut from a knife-but am not sure as it cut so easily with cheap scissors. I think it would be ok for some minimal protection and it is easy to work with. Better than nothing. I have ordered two of the other cut resistant gloves that are not labeled stainless and will compare the strength and value on those when they arrive here and update. I believe they come by the pair-at about this price, so being equal, they would be a better value. But if you want a stainless glove like the rapala filet gloves used to be, it looks like you have to pay alot more for one of the pro ones, like 99 now. Will see, I am going to search and update later. This product should be corrected and description changed-it is false advertising and not what is being sold. I have never had a problem with amazon til now. I obviously can't return though with the missing finger tip!~ Better the glove tip than my finger. I may still use some, but I would return if I wasn't so lazy and had damaged it and the packing opening it.
