American Art Pottery, Second Edition, by 32-year collector and dealer Dick Sigafoose, now features the products, histories, and interesting information of 54 potteries. An ideal reference for both advanced and beginning collectors, the book includes the big companies like Weller, Rookwood, Roseville, Brush McCoy, and American Encaustic Tile. It also includes the smaller producers like Newcomb, Muncie, Uhl, Grueby, and California Art Tile. The pricing guide and identification information helps collectors purchase bargains and appraise collections. There are over 650 color photographs of pottery and tiles that include close-ups and shots of backstamps. Old factory catalog pages and advertising also assist collectors with identification. Editorial Reviews

Review

American Art Pottery, the Second Edition, by Dick Sigafoose, also covers many companies. One of the most helpful things the author has done is to show the bottoms of many of the pieces. The fact is that almost all potteries produced some pieces that did not carry the company's logo; using some of the clues that can be found by recognizing clay colors, stilt marks, and glazing techniques, will help the collector identify many unmarked pieces. -Old Stuff, October/November, 2006

About the Author

Since childhood, Richard Sigafoose has had an interest in pottery and related memorabilia. He grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, an area where Rookwood Pottery was manufactured and common. This exposure led to a deep appreciation and love for all types of art pottery, to collecting, and finally, to the publication of his book, American Art Pottery.

3.0 out of 5 stars Extensive historical data, March 17, 2006
This review is from: American Art Pottery (Hardcover)

I purchased this book to aid in cataloging an existing collection and found it to be of no use for this task. Some of the other books are much more helpful. I was impressed with his research information on the American potteries, but found the pictures to be limited and the shape numbers were difficult to read ( very tiny print)and pictures of signatures were unclear, and prices were limited to the pieces shown. If I had been interested in the history of pottery in America this book would have been excellent because many potteries were listed.
