5.0 out of 5 stars superb guidebook for wills and estates, August 11, 2009

This is a modest format, 366 page guide that is superb. I has no bells and whistles, none of the pictures, diagrams and jokes typical of current books--just information presented in a very clear way. And nothing seems to be left out. Check out the table of contents. I stumbled onto it at the local library, and I am about to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great guide to a difficult activity, November 21, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: American Bar Association Guide to Wills and Estates, Third Edition: Everything You Need to Know About Wills, Estates, Trusts, and Taxes (American Bar Association Guide to Wills & Estates) (Paperback)
It is difficult emotionally and logistically to create a will or trust. I have been avoiding it for too long. But the ABA did itself proud with this one. I have done most of the "leg work" myself and feel confident going into my estate planner that I have the right questions to ask (and that I have saved myself a lot of money by pre-planning.)

A must-read for will/estate planning. I had purchsed other books that were so reader unfriendly that I never got past the first few chapters. Whoever actually wrote this one has the average (that is, not legally trained) person in mind and is able to empathize with what we know (and don't know) and how we feel.

"The last enemy that will be destroyed is death." -- 1 Corinthians 15:26 (NKJV)

This guide explains some of the more obvious pitfalls that proper legal planning can avoid . . . and describes some of the many ways to accomplish better results. Those who are tempted to download a template and fill it out will realize why that path can be an expensive and painful one.

As an attorney, I continually encouraged my parents to make proper plans for their old age and estates. They decided they didn't need any legal suggestions from me. What a mess they made! And it was all easily avoidable.

What went wrong? They believed that the law would automatically do what they wanted. Wrong!

Don't let that happen to your family. Take a look at this book, and you'll understand the kinds of issues you should be focusing on and how to work with an attorney to resolve possible complications. Your children and grandchildren will be glad you did!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wills and Estates, June 4, 2011
This review is from: American Bar Association Guide to Wills and Estates, Third Edition: Everything You Need to Know About Wills, Estates, Trusts, and Taxes (American Bar Association Guide to Wills & Estates) (Paperback)
This is a great book for helping the novice understand wills and estates. It is direct and the writer keeps it simple for people without a law degree.
