5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tasting Low Salt Recipes
Over-salted food is everywhere and one reason people get too much salt in their food is that many "cooks" think seasoning is salting.

This book has a wide variety of great tasting, healthy recipes. Anyone interested in becoming a good cook can use it to learn how to really season foods.

The book is a boon to those who know they need to lower their salt and a...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Was Hoping For
This cookbook contains a decent variety of recipes, but seems more geared towards low fat cooking than low sodium cooking. If you're casually trying to reduce sodium a bit this may be fine, but if you're on a very strict diet many of the recipes probably won't be acceptable. I found many of the recipes a bit unimaginative and lacking excitement, being perhaps geared...

This cookbook contains a decent variety of recipes, but seems more geared towards low fat cooking than low sodium cooking. If you're casually trying to reduce sodium a bit this may be fine, but if you're on a very strict diet many of the recipes probably won't be acceptable. I found many of the recipes a bit unimaginative and lacking excitement, being perhaps geared towards people who find mild picante sauce too spicy. And the book itself sounds like it was written by a government lawyer trying to avoid litigation with frequent use of awkward terms such as "acceptable vegetable oil" in recipes. There are better choices out there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great, January 2, 2003
I was looking for a cookbook with relatively light, relatively low-fat recipes. This book delivered what I was looking for, but nothing more. Some of the recipes are good, but some tend to be a little bland and somewhat involved to prepare.

5.0 out of 5 stars Able to cook at last, October 19, 2007
I'm a heart attack victim and was put on a 1000mg of sodium per day. In this day and age it's practically unheard of. Just about everything you buy is loaded with sodium. I was miserable till I found this book. You can cook great meals and stilll watch your sodium as well as your cholesterol and fat intake as well. This cookbook has changed my whole outlook on cooking and eating healthy.
GREAT BOOK . Thanks AHA

5.0 out of 5 stars My husband loves it., March 9, 2002

I bought this book because my husband found out from his doctor he has to lower his salt and fat. We have tried several of the recipes in the book and loved them all so far. I find I have my spice cupboard open a lot more and it takes a bit more time to prepare dinner, but it's worth every minute. I thought low-salt, low-fat cooking was giving up flavor, but it's not. I've recommended this book to several friends, and SO HAS MY HUSBAND. I actually feel better eating this way. I will serve these dishes to company. Eat recipe plainly lists the calories, fat breakdown and salt content.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Low-Salt and Low-Fat Cookbook!, October 15, 2007
Again, the AHA creates another winner. Great recipes for those looking to decrease their salt and fat intake. I have heart disease and high cholesterol, and so everything that is put in my mouth must be monitored. This book is a great help in doing that! I love how easy the recipes are, and they are so tasty. You have to try the Peanut Butter Cookies and Fudge; my family swore they were regular, high-fat comfort food! Also, the various main dish meals are great; the Beef Stroganoff and Arroz Con Pollo got rave reviews from my comfort-food loving family. You won't be disappointed with this great collection of healthy meals!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gift for my parents, March 26, 2007
This was a gift for my parents after my dad had a heart attack and then found out he was diabetic. They enjoy the book because not only does it have good recipes, but it gives a break down of the nutritional value of each recipe. So you will know the exact amount of carbs, fats, sodium, etc you are consuming with each recipe. Something very important to a heart condition/diabetic patient.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hoped for More, January 21, 2007
I was looking for a cookbook that would convert ordinary main dishes into healthy low fat/low salt meals. The recipes called for products that the average person does not have stocked. I had to buy a lot of condiments just to use the recipes.
