This turntable setup makes creating MP3's from vinyl albums a breeze. You don't need to hook it up to a stereo system or computer system to make the recordings - it's all done on board the turntable. There are still analog phono outputs to use. Assembly was easy. The cartridge came mounted, but was a low-quality Audio-Technica one. If you're an audiophile, as I am, you may want to consider getting a better cartridge. The ony caveat is, after talking with their tech support, is a high output cartridge may over drive the on-board electronics into clipping. Tech support couldn't tell me what output millivolt limit I should keep it under. So I looked up some Audio-Technica specs and got an idea of their output, and found an Ortofon ArkivOrtofon Concorde Arkiv Kit - DJ Cartridge includes extra stylus concorde-style cartride to use. So far, the new cartridge works well and sounds great. I only need to plug in a USB thumb drive of any kind and hit record. Out of the box, it records mp3 at 128kbps but you can download a firmware update so it records at 256kbps. The turntable could use a strobe light for speed adjustment to be sure you're right on 33 1/3 RPM, but a flourescent light and an old strobe disk will work, too. The turntable has no audible rumble, nor audible wow and flutter. It is a belt driven platter with a motor that 'locks on' to the selected speed, according to their tech support. I use Sound Forge for recording cleanup of clicks and pops. If it was not for the lower quality cartridge, and lack of a strobe for speed control, I would have given it five stars.

i got this turntable from tiger electronics here at amazon. customer service was excellent, they pay close attention to my questions and requests and always with a good attitude.
the turntable is an excellent product, i was hesitant about the quality of the cardrige and needle. The cartridge and needle are from Audio-Technica and produce excellent sound, smooth and powerful bass and brilliant treble. the turntable feels solid and we liked all the features: trim control, slow arm lever, 45 and 33 speed selectors, 45 adaptor, motor switch, smooth play switch(important to not introduce start/stop sounds while recording), independent power switch, nice suspension system, headphones adaptor, pre-amp output, RCA cables and usb adaptor for 1Gb sdcard (also included) the conversion form vinyl to mp3 is a breeze, my father (who is a 80 year old man) found it very easy to manipulate, he has a lot of vinyls and he is converting all his discs to mp3 with excellent results. It is good to say that the mp3's are 192kbps by default and sound quality is excellent. it is a little weird that the plate is ready for strobe light but the turntable does not have the light so it's useless. Something that is also worth mentioning is that it includes a switched preamp output, let me explain. if you want to connect the tt to an amplifier you need to switch it to default normal output (as in any other turntable) but if you want to hear the audio with your headphones (no receiver) then you change the switch position to get a pre-amplified output with no volume regulation. this was convenient because later we replaced the receiver with a recent model that doesn't have a phone input (i didn't pay attention when i bought it because it is used as a home theater and i only cared for digital inputs) of course with the normal output you get no audio from any input at the receiver, but if you switch the tt output to the "headphones" mode it will pre-amplify the signal and you will get perfect sound in any other input at the receiver (CD, AUX, DVR) so, if it happens you have a recent home theater receiver and it has no phone input still you will have excellent audio from the turntable.

Um, where's the drive belt?,

This review is from: American Audio Direct Record Turntable with USB Stick (Electronics)
This product makes no mention of the fact it ships without a drive belt.
Also, the instruction manual was incomplete at best and completely failed to explain the counterweight, given the fact the numbers on the counterweight spin independently of the counterweight and there is no way to get a proper reading. This all is too bad, because when I finger-spun one record, it sounded great. But clearly this manufacturer doesn't know what it's doing and there are a lot of other good brands out there. So unless you plan to make a separate purchase, I'd take my money and go with one of those other products.
