Great book
Got this for my wife, she loves it. Immaculately curated and edited. Also recommended are Fabulous Frocks and High Style: Masterworks from the Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Very disappointing
Of all the fashion books I purchased over the summer break, this book was the most disappointing. The images lacked imagination and flair, as with many of the dresses featured. This book may suit readers looking for historic and technical information on the fine art of 20th century American fashion, but not aficionados of couture fashion (as presented so...

Of all the fashion books I purchased over the summer break, this book was the most disappointing. The images lacked imagination and flair, as with many of the dresses featured.
This book may suit readers looking for historic and technical information on the fine art of 20th century American fashion, but not aficionados of couture fashion (as presented so beautifully in the books on Chanel, Dior, Valentino, etc). I sent AMERICAN BEAUTY back for a refund, which Amazon kindly granted.

This is a wonderful & inspiring book. It's well written and has lot's of very good photo's. I just received it and would recommend it to anyone who has a love for fashion or is looking for inspiration.
