I really like this Bible (and I have many) due to it's medium size -- easy to hold and the typeface is easy to read. It also has full-bleed chapter markings on the page edge so that you can navigate the Bible by just by looking at the side of the book (you'll quickly figure this out). Furthermore the paper is thick enough that you cannot see the writing on the reverse page -- a problem with many other study bibles that try to cram 2000 pages into one binding via ultra-thin, see-through pages. Finally this Bible is pretty light weight; I highly reccomend it for gifts or for daily usage.

This is the greatest Bible I have ever read. Wonderful translation, design, helps, everything. Scholarly and expansive. A wonderful tool for getting closer to the Scriptures. I can't recommend this Bible enough.

Avoid the footnotes!,

Reviewer Benjamin Douglass is spot on, at least with regard to the footnotes in this Bible. I purchased the St. Joseph edition of the New American Bible shortly after my reversion to Catholicism several years ago. Even with my limited knowledge at that time, I could ascertain that the footnotes were not in keeping with the Catholic faith (nor the Protestant or any other faith). So, while I can't verify Mr. Douglass's statement that the text is redacted or rearranged, I can confirm that the footnotes are "spiritually dangerous to read." If you're looking for a Bible that is easy to read, the Ignatius Bible is an alternative. For the poetic and inspirational, there's the classic Douay Rheims Bible; the original 16th century translation was updated in the 19th century for more modern language. If you have already purchased the New American Bible, I'm not sure that there is any harm in reading the text; it didn't lead me astray. But, by all means, stay away from the footnotes.
