About the Author

Our news and educational CD-ROM and DVD-ROM discs are privately compiled collections of official public domain U.S. government files and documents - they are not produced by the federal government. They are designed to provide a convenient user-friendly reference work, utilizing the benefits of the Adobe Acrobat format to uniformly present thousands of pages that can be rapidly reviewed, searched by finding specific words, or printed without untold hours of tedious research and downloading. Vast archives of important public domain government information that might otherwise remain inaccessible are available for instant review no matter where you are. This book-on-a-disc format makes a great reference work and educational tool. There is no other reference that is as fast, convenient, comprehensive, thoroughly researched, and portable - everything you need to know, from the federal sources you trust. This DVD-ROM disc is for use in a computer DVD drive. The files can be accessed from the File Explorer in the same way that you open files from a CD-ROM disc; the CD-ROM and DVD-ROM formats are functionally the same, but the DVD has more than six times greater storage capacity. Of course, this disc cannot be "played" in a DVD player connected to a television set. It contains computer-formatted data, not video.

1.0 out of 5 stars A computer and a three-hole punch don't make you a writer..., September 20, 2006
This review is from: 2006 American Guide to Biofuels and Bioenergy, Biodiesel, Ethanol, USDA and Energy Department Research, Alternative Fuels (BOOK plus DVD-ROM SET) (Ring-bound)
Three-ring binder (the cheap kind), some 80 single-sided, laser-printed pages (no duplexer on your $50 printer?) of browser printouts from the DOE website, and a barely readable DVD-R (no-name) with same materials poorly converted to PDF.
Total time to collect materials and prepare for print - 120 minutes, at most.

This is most certainly not a book, and, as it is, it would hardly get a passing grade as a middle-school research project. Sadly, in this great country of ours that places increasingly more importance on intellectual property than intellectual ability, this has become far too common. It looks like something compiled by a bored, middle-aged housewife in breaks between Soaps.
I produce my own biofuels for use in our vehicles and farm equipment and I am about to venture into full-scale manufacture for the public market. This book will not help me in my efforts, and it is being RETURNED tomorrow.
One last note to the gifted author/compiler: When publishing for the renewable energy market, how about putting the slightest effort into using renewable methods and materials? Bleached paper, single sided printing in large font, and a nasty plastic binder don't make me feel right. Profit was the only motivator for releasing this publication; luckily, I doubt any was actually gained. How very American...

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 2006 American Guide to Biofuels and Bioenergy, Biodiesel, Ethanol, USDA and Energy Department Research, Alternative Fuels (BOOK plus DVD-ROM SET) (Ring-bound)
It begins w/ basic definitions of "biofuels", "biomass", etc., then describes in greater detail the theory behind biodiesel, bioethanol, biopower, bioproducts.
Lastly launches into a lengthy compilation of various programs throughout the US, everything from small scale gassification, to switchgrass and corn stover applications, cogeneration, biorefineries.
