Book Description

An exploration of the borders between the United States, Canada, and Mexico becomes a comedy of breakdowns in small towns all around America in this four-month, ten-thousand mile adventure. Experience moments of blissful backroads freedom, cultural connection, and roadside romance--interrupted by cracked welds, electrical gremlins, evil tow truck drivers, tornadoes, and hurricanes. From B.C. to the Blue Ridge, Boquillias to Beverly Hills, American Borders is a unique and intimate exploration of the United States and its neighbors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent motorcycle travelogue March 24, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Carla has done a great job with this story. Well written, good story, honest, interesting, fun, enjoyable. I love travel and road stories (especially motorcycle journeys). When I pick one up, I want it to be just like this one. So often non-fiction road stories can be a bore or poorly executed. Not so, Carla King's American Borders. I would have given this 5 stars if it hadn't been for several poorly formatted places in the Kindle edition of this book. It's annoying to be going along and enjoying the book so much, then to have formatting errors wonder if you'd missed a passage or a page or ? If this gets fixed, I will gladly give it 5 stars.

Good work, Carla.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great adventures! December 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book added fuel to the fire within me to pursue my dream of traveling around the US on the back road. This book remind you of the good people out there who will enrich your lives.

The only reason I gave it a 4 star is because the book was not modified to fit the Kindle Fire cleanly. Otherwise it is a great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great travel writing December 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A quick read, hard to put down. I am considering buying a Ural bike and was curious about reading this book. I really enjoyed it, and despite the many mechanical breakdowns I have not been put off about the bike...

4.0 out of 5 stars Debugging a 1st Gen Ural by a Cross Country Trip February 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a thoroughly enjoyable read of one woman's distributor "sponsored" trip around the U.S. as a type of "shake down" of a Ural w/ sidecar. Both her descriptions of the ride, locations and people, as well as the challenges of frequent breakdowns and ways of dealing with them, with some support from the distributor were an enjoyable read (tho not some good experiences for her) and informative. Her route started in CA, went N, and accross S Canada and N US, then down the E and accross the S US, back to CA. It was 2937 Kindle pages long. Well worth it -- I recommend it.
