My professional life has meandered down many paths. I've worked as a legal secretary, an aerobics instructor,an FAA-licensed aircraft dispatcher, and now a published author. Perhaps this wealth of varied experience is why I naturally segued into writing. My love of animals led me to write two dog breed books (under the name Cynthia P. Gallagher), and my Jewish heritage spawned my first novel, FAR ABOVE RUBIES (under the name Cynthia Polansky) and a second novel, REMOTE CONTROL.

I am a writing tutor at the United States Naval Academy's Writing Center, where I wage daily war on incorrect grammar, one midshipman at a time. I also tutor Spanish and writing on a freelance basis, as well as freelance proofreading and editing.

This book is great for anyone who owns an American pit bull terrier or for anyone interested in the dog breed. It has lots of information regarding APBT's including history, feeding, grooming, training and more! It even comes with a training DVD. I am constantly referring back to it whenever I have a question. It is very helpful and I am extremely satisfied I purchased it.

The American Pit Bull Terrier is an informative, easy-to-read reference geared to owners and those would-be owners who are considering adopting a pit. And I recommend adopting over purchasing because the shelters are just flooded with pits of all ages. But back to the book: it gives insight into the dog's personality, provides background history, and lists training tips that are valuable to all levels of doggie experience.

As far as the dog's personality: As The American Pit Bull Terrier states, there is nothing, absolutely nothing about the pit that should discourage anyone from adopting one. Once the dog is temperment checked at a reliable shelter/rescue to determine whether any former abuse/neglect has left a lasting imprint (our pit has a lasting fear of our garden hose. We were told that the staff at the shelter used to get a little too aggressive with the pressure hose when cleaning out the kennels which apparently left a lasting impact on our dog) there is nothing to prevent it from becoming a great family dog.

As The American Pit Bull Terrier states, these are dogs that love their people, even when they have the misfortune to hook up with bad people. They are a bit testy with other dogs and are not prime dog park dogs but are loyal and loving companions and with the proper training and socialization they make great family members.

I bought this book when my husband and I first brought home our baby girl Harah. I started reading the book and things started making sense on why this breed can be so stubborn, especially if you have a female. This book gives you the breeds history along with training tips. My cousin suggested that I get this book and I am very glad that I did.

I found this book quite informative. My first Pit Bull was an adult male, very laid back and an absolute sweetheart. Then I got this puppy. OMG he's a terror, the polar opposite of my first Pit. I desperately needed help and this book proved invaluable. I highly recommend it.
