A complete waste of energy and cash!,
By A Customer
This review is from: American Bulldogs (Paperback)
I rated it one star cuse I couldn't rate it with a negative. I found this book to be a huge farse filled with misinformation. It's use a a heat source (burning it) will serve me better than the reading inside! No wonder the author is no longer breeding American Bulldogs and has left the breed for (African Boerboel) another Rare breed. How long before he writes a book on the Boerboel? I know I won't buy it! Try Gladiator Dogs as it is a much better read on the American Bulldog.

Its a good book but too brief to satisfy a real enthusiast.,

As I said it is too brief. Most of the information is insufficient and it doesn't describe the different strains of bulldog i.e Johnson/scott and standard. More pictures are needed and the fact is the training tips are not bulldog specific. Most trainers will train a bulldog differently from other breeds so its wrong to treat the bulldog as just another dog. It isn't! Its the best breed ever!It is a good buy though, for there is a great lack of other books.

A good enough "beginner" book, but that's all.,

This book gives a synposized historic review of the AB's, talks a bit about the breeds characteristics and has some good pictures of some "famous" ABs, but most (I'd say 80%) of the book is dedicated to generic, overall dog care. It's a cookie-cutter book -- you could plug in any breed info. in the first few chapters -- and then market the book in the appropriate breed section. This is a decent enough introduction to the breed, but only that. It's not a terrible book, it's just not very good as a breed-specific reference. In fact, anyone seriously considering an AB isn't going to get enough out of this book about THIS breed to honestly help them out -- and this is a breed you need to know before you take one into your life! As noted by other reviewers, for those who really want some serious information on AB's, buy the Working American Bulldog, which is a GREAT book -- maybe the ONLY widely-available book that gives in-depth information about the breed's history, temperament and qualities.
