About the Author

Irvin Fleming, MD, is a professor of surgical oncology in the Department of Surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and the medical director of the Methodist Healthcare Cancer Center in Memphis, Tennessee. He has been a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for more than twenty years and was the Society’s national president in 1993–1994. He lives in Memphis. Harmon Eyre, MD, retired from the American Cancer Society in 2008 after 15 years as its chief medical officer and executive vice president for research and cancer control. He lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jan Pogue is a freelance writer. She lives in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.
