Five Finger Death Punch's third studio album American Capitalist firmly continues the formula which the band had established on their previous two releases, especially their sophomore release War Is The Answer. This 2011 album is comprised primarily three minute tracks full of bouncy riffs, flailing double kicks and a mixture or hard verses with radio choruses.

If you are new to the band, the best way people have found for describing them is as a mixture between elements of Vol. 3 era Slipknot and Pantera, which does a fair job of describing the band's everyman metal approach and mixture of commercial moments with stomping heavy sections.

It isn't progressive, it isn't extreme and it isn't electronic; American Capitalist is pretty much just pure and simple American Heavy Metal with a lot of melody, perhaps a too little cheap or cheesy for some more discerning listeners, but wholly enjoyable for the rest.

At times the lyrics and artwork can be a bit hard to take and are the area for which non-fans will find most easy to criticize, but often they just add to the appeal of the band that has a certain infectious spirit that you will find yourself enjoying in spite of yourself.

The band also mix in some brilliant slower moments and furious virtuosic guitar solos courtesy of Zoltan Bathory which demonstrate a level of musicianship and songwriting skill far beyond the remit of most overly commercial radio approved metal bands.

This is their first album to feature Chris Kael replacing Matt Snell on bass and the second album to be released on the record label Prospect Park and produced by Kevin Churko (who also contributed on bass guitar, much like Bob Rock on St.

A great album to have for knuckleheads and hard rock/metal fans alike.

For returning FFDP fans curios about the album, buy it! You will not be disappointed. All the heavy hitting riffs from Way of The Fist and all the more melodic mix of War is the Answer makes it back for an even better 3rd album. I am not let down by a single song off this album. One song you want to go crazy and start a middle of the street mosh pit and the next song youll be singing your heart out. Some songs you want to (and probably will) do both.

To any open-minded music fans looking for a new band to listen to, I suggest you pick up this album. Its got just about every side of music you could ask for. Heavy, Melodic, fast, slow, from 80's style ballad hits to the new standards of metal. Its all there.

Five Finger Death Punch has been able to turn heads and attract ears from the start and this album only adds to show their amazing abilities as musicians and song writers.

Five finger death punch have found a formula on the last two albums which they continue through this album. If you are a fan of the first two albums, then this album will not disappoint you. Full of metal riffs, catchy courses and riffs, this is testosterone fueled metal at it's best. My purpose of this review is to focus on the different packages. There is the Standard 11 track version, a deluxe version with bonus CD of 4 songs, I-tunes version, and Best Buy Version. The deluxe version has 4 remix's of songs on the album that are Ok, but nothing really worth spending the money on unless you can get it discounted like I did. They basically overdub some canned electronic sounds and beats that really do nothing to make the package special. The I-Tunes version is the same 4 tracks plus an actual new song "the tragic truth", which has been available as a preview on many websites, and is a decent track. The I tunes also has the video download of Over and Under It. The price of this is much less than the going price of the deluxe version, and if you are not a big completist like me and don't need the physical disc, this may be the better version for you to go for if you just want the music. Finally the Best Buy version has a shirt with it. The extra cost for that package there is virtually the same if you got it vs. the "free shirt" that is included in the deluxe edition. However, you may save just a smidge with best buy because of the shipping and handling (just under ten dollars for in U.S. shipping). Not really a free t-shirt. If I had to do it again, I'd probably just get the regular CD and call it a day. Likely they will come out with another version later on like they did with Way of the Fist two times now. Overall I hope this is helpful for folks out there.

This my first experience with FFDP and this CD certainly does rock. Nice, heavy in-your-face guitars, a lot of double bass drumming and a singer with a strong voice and the ability to scream with the best of them. American Capitalist is good for about 40 minutes of straight head banging. Even the slower songs have their powerful moments, no all-out power ballads here.

There are downsides. By the time you're finished all the songs end up sounding the same. The lyrics are bad and every song is about the same subject: I won't back down, you can't defeat me, I hate you, I hate myself, screw you, leave me alone, I'm a man. There's enough testosterone in these songs to choke a bull. The music gets you charged up while the lyrics become silly as the CD goes on.

I listen to this at work when I need a shot of adrenalin to make it through the day. Just don't pay too much attention to the lyrics.
