Absolutely Stunning,

I'm a huge fan of photography coffee table books, so I was very excited to check out American Character: A Photographic Journey. The collection of photos in this book truly moved me. The 11 photographers featured in the book were able to accurately convey the diversity of "characters" who make up modern day America. I was particularly fond of Eric McNatt's photos of Brownwood, Texas as they sparked memories of my own time spent in that proud Texas community as a child (we held our annual family reunions there). From the bright faces of NYC children to the rustic landscapes of farms in Washington state, this book reminds us all that what makes each of us different makes us collectively great. Highly recommended!

The concept of the book is what lead me to purchase it, I was not disappointed. To see the different people who make up our nation was inspirational and the pictures were a nice introduction to the photographers whose work makes up this collection...a great addition to my library.

What a beautiful book! It is full of interesting and unique "characters" showing a remarkable cross-section of American life. I grew up in a small town in Texas, so I especially love Eric McNatt's section which features the icons I remember so fondly: High School football, Little League baseball, basketball, cheerleaders, beauty queen (at a parade), rodeo clown and a dance hall. As crazy as it seems, my other favorite image in the book is the couple at the gay pride parade. We should all have someone look at us with such passion on their face!
