4.0 out of 5 stars Great Talents
I agree with another reviewer in that the full length American City Suite should have been included. I also fell in love with these guys when I had them on 8-track with A Song or Two. I truly wished that album was available on CD. I have their seconf album on vinyl and have enjoyed hearing The Dutchman and the Tuna Fish Song for years.

2.0 out of 5 stars Shortcomings
The Very Best of Cashman & West is not the very best as only the single version of "American City Suite" is included. The album version had been the anthem for NYC in the seventies was, and still is, much thought of and appreciated. Both versions should have been included.

Cashman & West's "American City Suite" and "Is it raining in NY?" came up in conversation recently. The sixties had ended and the uncertainties of the seventies lay before us. Such were the times of this music. The memories of people, places and events that surrounded this album's release prompted us to see if anyone had kept a tape, etc. When we came up empty, we decided to try Amazon. Flashbacks are tremendous motivation to see if we can recapture a little bit of ourselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Haunting After All of These Years, September 9, 2010

I hadn't heard American City Suite since it was first released in the autumn of 1972 when I was a senior in high school in Wisconsin. I had only heard this song a few times on WLS top forty out of Chicago before it sunk in the charts. The lyrics had stayed with me for years and I used youtube to finally unearth this masterpiece by Cashman & West. The final few minutes of the song our quite mournful and poignant. In many ways it is like a blending of the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel and Irish music (at its saddest)into one off-the-wall classic. 38 years later the lyrics still ring true about the decline of New York City as well as the rest of urban America.

5.0 out of 5 stars STILL LOVE 'EM, July 20, 2007
This review is from: American City Suite: The Very Best of (Audio CD)
I don't remember how I discovered Cashman & West in the '70s but I did and fell in love with their music. Had at least 2 of their albums and remember listening to them a lot, so much so that most of the songs on this TERRIFIC CD is familiar to me and I'm enjoying the music now in 2007 as much as I did back when I listened on my LPs, which I kept out of sentiment, which is pretty stupid since I gave away my Crazy Eddie rack sytsem and have no way to play an LP. Back to this CD, I am loving it. BUY IT. It's so damn pleasant and upbeat and so NOT BORING and all toe-tappers.

D, if you happen to read this, I want you to know what an honor and a thrill it was to meet you and L over the years. Boy, was that fabulous when you pulled out your guitar at those parties. I just loved it. I hope you're doing great.
