This book has lovely photos but absolutly no depth. It is really not much more than a magazine article and definitly not for anyone who has a serious interest in the period.

I bought this book because I was looking for pictures of architectural details of colonial homes; things like dental molding, wainscoting, mantles and kitchen fireplaces. I was just trying to get ideas for my dream home and this book did provide some good photographs of the plantations here in Virginia...but just not quite as many or as detailed as I would have liked. That being said I did enjoy looking through the book and it now makes a great addition to my coffee table.
The price of the book was definitely a plus as the local bookstores had higher priced with books that did not cover as many of the different colonial styles.

If you enjoy colonial homes and want to add this book to your collection it was definitely worth the purchase for me.

The subject of this volume, crisply handled, is a magnificent one, as any reader who has seen a great house will attest. The handling of the subject, smoothly touched, is a testament to clear, concise journalism.
