Stronger plastic than I expected,

I bought this and an all-stainless one. I don't know what the plastic is made of but it's not cheap brittle junk. I have no fears of the plastic breaking. The slots on either side work well if you find a bowl/container that it will fit on. It frightens everyone who sees it and I do use a cut resistant glove just in case. After adjusting the blade height and a little practice, you will not cut into the cob. If you have kitchen skills, this will be no problem for you. The all stainless one will probably sit in the cupboard unless I get a very large square metal container that fits just right going to the bottom of the container and resting on the top edge on the other side. I think this one is best for most users.

American Corn Cutter,

An old farmer recommended this to me. It works exceptionally well for both full kernel corn or creamed corn. Once the blades are adjusted to the size of corn you have doing even a bushel of corn is a snap. Place it over a large pot and in 4 strokes a cob is done completely.

Love it.,

My mother had this cutter forever. When she passed away I got it and I love it. I have tried a few others, but this one is the best I have ever used. I won't use anything else.

mish,mash, mush,
This review is from: American Corn Cutter
Doesn't matter which blade you use, this corn cutter just cuts off half the kernels. You end up running the cob through a second time and by then you have mush. Tried four different corn peelers including this one before finding one that really did the job.

Used it tonight on 8 dozen ears of corn for freezing. Very little waste and was not messy at all. Really made the job a lot easier!

Corn cutter came today, so I rushed right out and bought FIFTY ears of fresh Michigan corn to can this evening. Set up a large enamel roasting pan in the sink, and then got busy. I creamed a bunch of ears, but didn't want it to be too mushy so I switched blades and began shearing off entire kernels. This thing was AWESOME !When making creamed corn, you can make 2 or 3 passes over the cob to get the most from your efforts. I turned the cob around and scraped from the opposite direction with good results. Then I adjusted the straight blade with a screwdriver and added whole kernels to the mix. The results were outstanding for the little effort expended. If you're into canning or just like fresh corn, you can't go wrong with this cutter. I've got ten quarts of fresh creamed corn in the pressure cooker as I write this, and will be doing more in the days to come, thanks to this handy tool. Highly recommended. Update 9/22/2011 : Went back to the market and brought home sixty more ears of sweet corn and spent the entire day processing (canning) sweet corn. This tool is the shizzle, and I zipped through all sixty ears in about 30 minutes or so.....that would be difficult to do with a knife, even in experienced hands. Still satisfied, and have been telling my friends about it.

I decided this fall to make my own organic creamed corn. I purchased a hand held corn cutter at a specialty shop and ended up cutting myself as much as the corn. I had seen The American Corn Cutter on a homesteading blog and found it on Amazon. It made removing the kernels very easy and clean. I have really enjoyed this tool and would recommend it. It is nice to buy something made in the USA too.

Perhaps I'm using it wrong but the corn comes off the cob in a heap of mush. It is now in a box in my basement marked "gargage sale items for next spring".

A friend introduced me to this...it takes a little effort, and a little time, but it's well worth it. Tool is well made also.
