5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fashion History For Your Dolls, April 7, 2010
"American Costume Dolls: How To Make and Dress Them" and was written in 1941. It shows how to make 11 dolls, fashions and accessories from American History spanning a time period of 1620-1941. The clothing in this book is fantastic. Now the actual dolls are suppossed to be made of paper mache and that sounded so messy to me, that I simply made my dolls the same size but out of cloth with another pattern I had on hand. It's really a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book for beginners and advanced, December 25, 2010
This was the book that started me on my doll making hobby of over 35 years. I read it at the age of nine, and was so charmed by the adorable line illustrations of each doll in its accompanying historical costume that I had to try the paper maché doll technique described in the book (though acquiring and working with plastic wood for the shoes/feet at the time was a lot harder than I thought it would be!). Needless to say my first attempts were rather crude, but it gave me great practical application experience as a foundation for my mixed-media and altered art pieces later in life. Years later I wanted to add the title to my reference library, but learned it was out of print and only available as a library archive resource. I am ecstatic to hear that it has now been reprinted to add to my collection. Simple yet challenging, this is a nice resource for children and adults alike interested in making, sewing for, or collecting dolls.
