Book Description

July 2008
This encyclopedic study is the fruit of twenty years of collecting, research, and study of the most significant American costume jewelry from 1930-1950. It offers readers a meticulous, reliable instrument to knowing these gems, which are often true and proper little works of art. In the two volumes, over 966 photographs show hundreds of jewelry items in full color, with an additional 729 illustrations of patents, advertisements, and historic photos. Thirty-seven companies are included, with addtional chapters on "jelly belly" jewelry in volume one and patriotic jewelry in the second volume. In-depth research of the companies makes this the best source on the American costume jewelry industry. The first volume, A-M, covers the companes from Accessocraft to Mosell, and includes Bouslen, Coro, Eisenberg, Miriam Haskell, Hobe and others, as well as a chapter on jelly belly jewelry. The second volume N-Z, continues with Norma Jewelry Corp., through Rabajes, Réja, Trifari, to Uncas Manufacturing, with a chapter on American patriotic jewelry.

5.0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING 2 BOOK SERIES, September 29, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: American Costume Jewelry: Art & Industry, 1935-1950, N-Z (Hardcover)
I recently received both books (A-M and N-Z) in this series and they are truly an outstanding set of books! I also own Brunialti's "Tribute To America" and "American Costume Jewelry 1935-1950" books but this series with newly updated and researched information along with 300 new photos is a collector's dream! Besides glorious photos, it provides patent information, detailed descriptions, along with any advertisement information these pieces were featured in. Anyone familiar with Brunialti's books, know they are not pricing value guides, but informative books designed to showcase the most highly sought-after collectible jewelry desired by a beginning collector to a seasoned experienced collector. Any true collector will appreciate having these books in their reference library.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice desk reference book, August 20, 2011
This review is from: American Costume Jewelry: Art & Industry, 1935-1950, N-Z (Hardcover)
Well researched. Provides extensive company/manufacturer histories. Impressive photos of examples from each designer. Does tend to gloss over minor league designers. Dedicates too much of first volume to Coro. None-the-less it's an exceptional reference book.

3.0 out of 5 stars I waited a long time....., September 24, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: American Costume Jewelry: Art & Industry, 1935-1950, N-Z (Hardcover)
anticipating the release of Roberto Brunalti's set translated into English. The photos of high end items shown are lovely, making the set a coffee table show piece. I was extremely disappointed in finding no prices included. As a dealer I am already aware of what is high quality. What I needed was up to date information on pricing them.
