Having wild and uncontrollable hair as a woman is a well-documented problem, but what about if you're a guy? After years of using cheap gels that left flakey residues in my hair, and/or smelling feminine, I was introduced to American Crew in the little brown jar by a stylist. I now swear by this stuff. 3.0 out of 5 stars Okay.
This pomade provides good hold considering its water based formula. The smell is also better than other american crew products. If you want something stronger though, you might want to try Star Wax, which is also based on water and has a pleasing fragrance. I usually use both and alternate between them depending on the hold I prefer.

Even on my knappy head (I have very thick wavy, but not curly, hair) American Crew keeps my hair in place and natural-appearing without lookling like I'm using Brill's Cream. A thick dime-sized dab is enough for keeping my short haired coiffure in place and de-poofed all day. The trick is to work it in while my hair is moist from the shower but not dripping wet. Yes, it costs way more than gels but it's worth every penny. One 4 oz jar lasts me about 6 weeks. The other benefit to American Crew is the smell - my wife absolutely loves the way my hair smells.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Pomade Available--For Men AND Women!, October 3, 2006
These kinds of products are so hard to judge. So, trial and error has been my main form of selection over the years. Stumbled on this one and came out very well. It's an opaque, almost colorless pomade, nice and thick and a little goes a very long way! I have short hair, with lots of tecture cut into it and American Crew Pomade for Men( LOL, it's great for the ladies too!) is NOT heavy to your hair despite its thick appearance. Just use a small, dime sized amount at first. If you need more, i advise a little at a time. Applied right, your hair will take on any shape or direction you want and oh, the shine!! Beautiful, lustrous shine will help bring out your natural hair color and even heighten the effects of colored hair. Washes out very easy when time for that comes. Has a very masculine scent, but don't let that deter you, ladies! I'm telling you--this one has them all beat and I've used many brands. Price wise, I might hold off on it if I don't absolutely have to have it, but then, Amazon seems to be offering it at some very good prices!

Over the years I have used lots of hair care/styling stuff over the years, from just letting it air dry to super hold gels. I had heard about Pomade from back in the day and thought it would be worth trying. I had been using Brylcream for a while but the little dab just didn't give me as much control as I would of liked.

This does a better job of providing hold with flexibility. It has a pleasant smell and rubs into you hands and then rubs right into my hair. If you don't use too much it doesn't give you the super slick wet look but it gives you a little shine and nice classy hold.

Price wise I know it seems a little high, but you do get the two jars which should last for quite a while, of course depending on how much you use. And you don't have the hard hat stiffness of gel, or the looseness of a cream. I have now become a very big fan of the product and will continue to use it as long as I can get it here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Let Your Soul Glo! Let Soul Shine Thru! This Crew Is For You!, April 14, 2011

This review is from: American Crew Pomade, 3.0-Ounce Jar - Packaging May Vary (Health and Beauty)
Have you been looking for a masculine hair product that lets your Soul Glo without that oily mess? Well, look no further metrosexuals (and those seeking a great masculine hair product), American Crew manufactures a great Pomade! Why you ask? Well, for starters, the pomade features a subtle manly smell that I find fades rather quickly through the day, but likely enhances our pheromones. The pomade itself is easy to apply...not too sticky, spreads evenly in the hands, and applies without problems to the hair (I apply on damp hair). One jar also lasts a long time, as you only need a small amount per application. Once applied, the pomade gives your hair a "wet" looking hold, but without any of that stiff or crunchy feel as I've experience with the Crew forming cream. Most importantly, I find that this product does not flake like many other cheap pomades or gels I've used in the past, and lasts through most of the day.

So why not 5 stars? I find that this product does a hell of a job managing my porcupine hair, but at least for me, it takes a little more work to wash out than other pomades that I've used in the past. However, its a small price to pay for a sharp look. Oh yeah, Amazon's price (when using subscribe & save) is definitely hard to beat as my local stores in NYC charge this much for only 1 jar! Thanks Amazon!

I love this product! It makes my hair nice and soft (I use it with the American Crew Thickening Shampoo, and the American Crew Daily Conditioner). This pomade goes in soft and has just the right amount of hold. Good stuff!

2.0 out of 5 stars Smells too strongly like cologne, March 21, 2011

While this product works pretty well, it really makes you smell like you are wearing cologne. The smell is too strong.

I've switched to Baxter of California Water Pomade 2.5 oz (75 ml) and it's a much better product, although more expensive. It smells way better (less strong scent and a better scent) and performs better as well.

This was my hair-product of choice for a number of years. However, I had once purchased one of these pucks from a department store, and had been dissapointed in the quality (I think it was old...). Based on that experience, I was a little nervous about purchasing it online.

But I was wrong to worry! The two pucks showed up quickly, and they were every bit as good as I remembered.

Put a dab of this on your finger, spread it through your hands, and then massage it through your hair. It will style easily, but it won't crisp like gel. Instead, your hair holds it's shape, but still feels soft. Mine starts to wear out towards the end of the day (on my part, where I usually have a hard time getting hair to stay in place) and it can start to look a little 'dusty' if you use too much.

If you use the right amount, and you aren't running around in the wind, it's perfect. I love it, and I'll continue to buy it on Amazon. What a great price!

I use this stuff every day. I wouldn't pay retail for it, but at the reduced price on Amazon, it is well worth it. I have very thick hair and this gives it a nice shine, good body for styling, and a non-greasy (like gel), non-stiff (like spray) feel.

Bought this stuff because I had run out of LaCoupe pomade and couldn't find it anywhere. I was using the Suave professionals pomade that said "works as well as American Crew". I wasn't really happy with the Suave as it left my hair looking greasy and did't hold well at all.

I just got the american crew pomade and it's immediately clear that the people at Suave are dirty liars. This stuff works amazing (even better than the LaCoupe) and I am thoroughly impressed with how well it holds without looking like gel.
