3.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Loud
Based on other reviews I chose this humidifier expecting it to be very quiet. It was actually quite loud so we returned it and have purchased another. If not for the bedroom, perhaps it would have been ok. We turned it off before we got a sense of how well it humidified as we could not sleep.

We live outside the US in a country that is very dry almost all year round and use the humidifier with a transformer. We have had it running constantly since we received it two weeks ago. We ordered the replacement filters from LearningCurve.com and use filtered tap water. It is a simple, easy to use humidifier and I would recommend it to anyone who has a problem with dry air. We bought it mainly because we were having trouble sleeping because the air is so dry. It definitely makes a difference.

4.0 out of 5 stars Where to get filters, January 24, 2010
This review is from: American Red Cross Cool Mist Humidifier (Toy)
I got tired of cleaning the filter that was falling apart, so I went to find an alternative one on line. I actually found one at Walmart made by Sunbeam. Sunbeam makes a Universal filter that can be cut to size. There are two in the box, but cut perfectly in half to make four filters for our unit. They have a charcoal backing and an indicator strip that tells you when to replace the filter. The box cost $8.00, which for us comes out to $2.00 a filter and they do not fall apart!
I love the unit and I think the white noise it makes helps my daughter fall asleep.
I hope this helps those who had trouble finding filters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked for Me, February 25, 2008
This review is from: American Red Cross Cool Mist Humidifier (Toy)
I bought this unit for myself to combat dry indoor air during the winter. I would not describe this humidifier as "whisper quiet," but it's not really noisy either. I checked the humidity with a hygrometer and it took a few days, but I soon began seeing the results I hoped for. I am using about 1/2 gallon of distilled water per day. The unit is easy to fill and clean.

One note: Don't expect to see actual "mist" coming from the unit, but be assured, it's working. They should just call it a "Cool Humidifier" and leave out the "Mist" part.

As for the user who said she couldn't find filters, a two minute google search found them at the Learning Curve (manufacturer's) website. amazon.com is also selling them now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best humidifier we've ever had!!, April 27, 2007
This review is from: American Red Cross Cool Mist Humidifier (Toy)
What a great humidifier to purchase for your baby's room or child's room!! This is the quietest humidifier we've ever had, and we've gone through quite a few! It's easy to fill, the filter does last a long time, and virtually noise-free. Highly recommend this humidifier over other ones!

5.0 out of 5 stars great for nursery, June 29, 2010
This review is from: American Red Cross Cool Mist Humidifier (Toy)
We bought this humidifier for our son's nursery and have been very pleased. It is very easy to use, and its hum is just the right white noise for sleeping. Our only problem was that Target stopped carrying it, so replacement filters have been hard to find locally.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but not the quietest humidifier, September 27, 2007

This humidifier is good, but it is not the quietest one I've had. I have a much quieter one in my bedroom which actually appears to humidify the air better also as it uses more water. However, the gentle white-noise of this humidifier is good as it drowns out other noises at my toddler's naptime and at night too. And it does slowly humidify the room so I have to rate it as ok. I believe the one I have in my room is a Sunbeam, it's really very quiet.

I have no complaints about this humidifier when we were able to use it. It's quiet and seems to be efficient. However, the replacement filters just don't seem to exist, not even at the store we bought it in. I also think it went through the filter really fast (only two or three weeks of periodic use) and we use filtered water.

I bought this at a local store about a month ago. It does humidify the room nice. It does not soak the surface it on - no condensation but it is so not quiet. The noise does not bother the baby so that is fine.

2.0 out of 5 stars Compared to the Crane Cool Misit Humidifier ..., January 31, 2011
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: American Red Cross Cool Mist Humidifier (Toy)
Compared to the Crane Cool Misit Humidifier ... it's not very good.

When I first bought this I thought it was okay, and actually found the loudness of it very useful as it acted as a noise maker for my baby's sleep time. Then we bought the Crane Cool Mist Humidifier for our room and discovered that the American Red Cross one doesn't work so great in comparison. Sticking my hand over the output of mist on the Crane creates moisture - in front of the Red Cross one it creates a cold hand and nothing more. The Crane sounds like a fish tank and actually wasn't loud enough for the white noise we wanted.

Also, the spring that releases the water sometimes bends sideways instead of closing the spring and therefore does not release the water. Sometimes we don't realize until the next morning that the water didn't release because the water level hasn't gone down. On the Crane there is a protective guard around the spring so that it cannot bend but is forced to close and release the water.

So now we're using both in our baby's room. One as an actual humidifier and the other as a glorified noise maker.
