I have this dictionary, along with the M-W Collegiate (8th ed.), the American Heritage Dictionary (4th ed.), and an American Heritage Desk Dictionary, along with a number of pocket dictionaries. This Pocket Oxford American Dictionary has a surprising number of definitions. I've found words in this dictionary that aren't in my M-W or A-H Desk Dictionary, and the definitions are clear and concise. It also has lots of usage notes that are easy to understand and are very helpful. This is a great dictionary, regardless of cost, and it's nice that it's reasonably portable as well. I highly recommend it.

This is a wonderful dictionary for the price. The reason I gave it 4 stars, it has no roots. You have no idea if the word is from Latin,or Old English.

I am a graduate student in NYC. Not a native speaker of English. The reason I bought this dictionary is because I felt tired with searching internet for some usage of a phrase or a slang. This dictionary is handy and really informative - it includes many frequently used phrases, and also provides some examples for explanation. Very good for me.

This is a great dictionary, though I wouldn't call it a "pocket" dictionary. I was looking for something on the smaller side to keep in my backpack for college but this is too big. It is my own fault for not reading the dimensions. I will keep it at home though.

The dictionary is about 5.3" x 8", which is slightly bigger than I expected. Soft cover. Words are a bit small. Other than that it's decent dictionary to have.

It's an excellent and invaluable resource that I suggest to all of the students in my high school classes. I recommend it to everyone who asks me about dictionaries.

It's only pocket size if you have enormous pockets.

This book is more "desk sized" but it is VERY much better than the Webster's I was using. At 978 pages, small font, it has far more words than other dictionaries you'd want to keep handy for quick reference. It isn't perfect. It didn't have "plein-air" when I needed it but it has at least 5 times the number of entries the other has and at a college plus level. Great value!

Good price, just what I wanted in a dictionary. New condition. Just as expected it to be. Amazon associates come through again!

Nice dictionary for my middle school son but it's pretty big - check out the dimensions if you really want a "pocket" dictionary.

Got this dictionary for a open book test, it's a basic dictionary, enough words in it. It could be a little thinner and smaller in size.
