Provides an insight of the best of time, icons of the era, living the good life, the Red threat, dream machines, equal rights, TV, sports, entertainment and much, much more. 5.0 out of 5 stars A great visual journey through time, April 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The American Dream: The 50's (Our American Century) (Hardcover)
i'm a thirteen year old girl who had to use this book for a resourse in a history project for this decade. at first i thought the fifties were very boring and sugar coated. i took what i needed from the book and returned it. i went back to the library a month later for more books and saw this one again. i opened it and saw amazing pictures of athletes, comedians, civil rights activists, tv stars and more. i learned how real the fifties were, and how it changed america. this book is a great coffee table book as well as resourse. get this book as well as the other books in the series before the millenium!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bring back the 50's, September 30, 2009

This review is from: The American Dream: The 50's (Our American Century) (Hardcover)
A complete walk down memory lane. Except for the Red Scare and Atomic War fear, the fifties seem like utopia compared to today. This book is a must have for boomers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great window to the '50s, June 25, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The American Dream: The 50's (Our American Century) (Hardcover)
This book shows the cars, fashions, music, TV shows, movies, how much things cost, and other delightful tidbits about the '50s. It tells a balanced view of those years, also describing the cold war and racial tensions of the time. If you were there and want to be taken back, or weren't there, but want to know what that decade was like, this is a swell, neato, keen book. I would also recommend Bill Bryson's book The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid, which is autobiographical.
